Hello all,
I'm a huge traction fan and I see there is alot happening with traction and MSTS. I however hardly use it any more since I purchased Trainz. With all that aside I have as of July become a content creator. There are a select few of use who are trying successfully to bring more traction into Trainz. I have create interurban overhead, carbarn, a small depot, and some subway tunnels. There is more like 3rd rail track and even north shore style catenary. I'm not very good at creating rollingstock however... lol My first attempt is actually turning out rather well considering its a custom job.I want to know if any of you content creators would be interested in sharing your creations for conversion into Trainz? You will of course get full credit for the model.I'm looking for anything and everything new and old...Here is a pic of a few things I've created for Trainz...I thank you for any and all responses.

Thats just a few and I've made change to the K1-A a new pic will be up of it soon.

WOW! with modeling like that you should go back to MSTS. You could become a highly respected member of the Forum. I hope to achive such standards in releasing the first New York MU, The M-7 and the fictional M-8. Both Have third rail shoes for GCT and Penn station. Do you know how high the third rail shoe is on most transits?-NHtrain

RE: Anyone interested in sharing??

From what I have done I would make the 3rd rail shoe about 3 to 4 inches about the running rail. As for MSTS and coming back, well to be honest Trainz if far easier to use over all.. when it comes to creating a consist and creating routes. The variety of overhead and track is also another reason why I prefer it.If you get a chance check out the website and forums lots of great things going on there. Do a search for the following ppl and you see there is alot going on. Mike10, Tolaris, Tafweb, Landrvr1I know there are more guys but they get alot of buzz when they release content. If you want I can send you my 3rd rail track section so that you can have a reference for your 3rd rail shoes... jus let me know what app you're using for creation... gmax or 3dmax

I actually use TSM. It is for people who don't know what a computer is to people who have not gone 5 sec. with out doing a 100% accurate model of the world in gmax or 3dmax4. Thanks for your help! That should speed up the process. I hope to have the thing out by december 32nd.. LOL! no, really February.-NHtrain

Oh well, But I have another Idea. Does your program convert to .3ds? if it does then that means your model will owrk in msts! Then you can share the trains. I have done a lot with the M-7 so far and I am doing some miner model to it.-NHtrain

Decisions, decisions

Is the offer bilateral, i.e. would you make some of the Trainz content available for MSTS? I like Trainz as their route editor is so incredibly easy to use. On the first day, I double tracked the England route so that I could see an oncoming Electroliner. But what I don't like about it is that it isn't particularily precise, you interactively place things and change things and after enough iterations you get it right. Ease of use is a double-edged sword. But MSTS has so much more content available to download. The route editor, however, is downright miserable to use. It does, however, at least support the notion of real world coordinates. I've seen one or two utilities to take digital elevation model (DEM) data to turn it into MSTS landscape tiles or whatever. Hopefully more of this sort of software will become available. As my favourite abandoned railroad has been, by Federal law, turned into a bike path, I can ride my bike AND collect real world route data with my GPS. All streets, intersections, roads, locations, buildings, and so on, are located on a spot represented by three floating point numbers. In short, it should be possible to create a route without any tedious mucking about with any sort of route editor. To my way of thinking, MSTS has more going for it than Trainz, though I think Trainz is "better". Better technology, better rendering engine.By far the most convincing route building paradigm I've seen so far is an excellent freeware program called BVE from a guy in Japan. His route definition is a plain text file consisting of a milepost (km, actually) and what to do or display at this location. In a sense, the route definition is not entirely unlike a player piano roll. Best of all, it can be generated by a program. This flexibility, too, is a two-edged sword, as everything is in a non-proprietary format, everything contained can be pinched.Without going into any detail, I consider Auran's business model to be inappropriate. However, as a non-Microsoft company, when the open source revolution finally comes, Auran is in a position to offer Trainz and its other products on Linux or whatever that new world may be. Not so for Brand X.As for myself, when and if I have freeware content to offer, I would offer it for both MSTS and Trainz, just like vendors who offer the same program for the PC and MAC, or as IBM offered their mainframe software for both VM and MVS.I would love to run Landrvr's Electroliner down the Rhine.
