The LRV is uploaded and it is a gem! I used the PCC cab files as I didnt write any new ones as I was hoping that the Boeing was coming with one. This is a ctually an A & B unit joined together to articulate around the corners as the prototypes do. One problem that I will solve is you can not MU two or three together as they sometimes run. I need to create a spacer or they look like a solid piece.

RE: BOSTON TYPE 7 LRV

George,Not sure if I'm going to have an LRV cab anytime soon. I don't quite have the 3D modeling skills to make one, and I work with gmax, so there wouldn't be any way for me to render something I made there unless I registered 3D Canvas and learned to use it. Or, if I found some other program that would render stuff. Maybe I could do a decent cab in Adobe Illustrator, though, if I were really careful about lighting and shading. I definitely have ideas for how to animate buttons and guages, though: for example, I'll be setting up the prototype door switches as the pantograph switch, since on my Boeing, hitting 'p' opens the doors.Speaking of 3D Canvas, any chance you could export your Type 5 to .3ds and send it to me? I'd like to work on it and eventually map a traditional texture to it, now that I've learned how to do that with the Boeing. As I said, my copy of 3DC is unregistered, so I can't export .3ds or export to MSTS.Kinki looks great despite the double pantograph Maybe if I can model Lechmere station one of these days and get that area scenicked in the RE, I'll take some neat screens with the Type 7 and in-progress Boeing.Alex StroshanePrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 4

OOPS! That was a prototype screen shot so I have sent a good one of the finished taking a curve on the Chicago Loop. Pretend its North Station curve. I will send the .3ds files as I would like to see rivets and other detail also. That would be a great upgrade. Having the .3ds files also allows one to make a different car by adjusting the TYPE 5. I plan to use it to shrink me an Eastern Mass car #4387 that ran from Sullivan Square to Stoneham via the through the woods running in the "Sheepfold" recreation area.Maybe others should make their source files available for others to use also. Matt did with his PCC and it enabled me to create the MTA model. I have plans to try a wack at a Dallas double ended PCC car also from his .3ds files.

RE: BOSTON TYPE 7 LRV

Pretend its North Station curve.Yep...it's working. Although, that reminds me, I'm gonna have to figure out how to model the el sections for that curve eventually. The Type 7 looks fantastic, I look forward to downloading it. Good idea with the ex-Dallas cars, let me know if you'd like me to make a texture for it. I think I will take a break from modeling and do another PCC reskin, this time of no. 3265, which I believe was the first car to be rebuilt a couple of years ago and painted in the "new" orange-and-cream livery.I agree about the helpfulness of making source files available. I'm about to ask Matt for a .3ds version of the MBTA roof-monitor PCC so that I can rework it slightly, maybe I can animate the doors.AlexPrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 8

RE: BOSTON TYPE 7 LRV

Last I knew, Matt Harter himself was planning to rework his own model. Better that way, because he really knows what he's doing, and the Breda model is a pretty complicated shape.I've gathered some photos and sketches to start working on a cab for the Boeing LRV. Also, I've gotten some more work done on the model itself since the last round of screenshots, so here's an update. Doors are fully operational, though I still need to duplicate them so that all six sets are animated. Windshield wipers are animated but slightly buggy. Texturing of the exterior is mostly done, but I have to make some careful adjustments to one side to fix the alignment of the textures. Since taking these screens the other day, I figured out how to get the alhpa-ed windows to work. I have also started on an interior - I have the floor, basic walls with door cutouts, and the stepwells. Still need to make the ceiling and all, and then I'll begin adding detail and texturing it.http://bostonterminal.web1000.com (updates might not show until later this evening)Also did some more work on the Green Line route - redid Lechmere loop with Xtracks tram sections, so it's more prototypically size. Still need to make several viaduct sections before continuing, and I have yet to perfect the 'el' pieces in terms of texturing. Should get more work done soon as vacation is about to begin.Alex StroshanePrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 11
