Hi,I downloaded the files brill51.zip and connbrill.zip from teh www.train-sim.com file library. I extracted the files to a temporary directory and then copied both folders to my Trainset directory. When I run ConBuilder it tells me that both locomotives to don't have the line Engine and can't be added to the engines list.Could somebody please send me the working .eng files or the working locomotives in a zip file to thetrucknut@shaw.cakwk100,A Diesel drinking, piston clankin', air pollutin', smoke belchin' ten wheel buggy, from Seattle WA...

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

I will attempt to get back to the original versions and send you a modified file for both of those cars. Unfortunately, I've made running changes to both, so I do not readily have the original files. The problem is one indented line. If you can open the .eng files in Wordpad, you can fix this yourself by removing the space in front of the following:Engine ( PRL&PBrill1051
Also, remove all spaces, except one, between the word Engine and ( PRL&PBrill1051The files are OK in the MSTS Activity Editor, but ConBuilder has a problem with them. Here's a thread discussing the matter:

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Unfortunately, although I can get ConBuilder to recognize the two trolley cars in question (after I edited the .eng files), and ConBuilder will make and save consists made with these cars, MSTS does not recognize them. If I make a consist with the same two trolley cars in the MSTS Activity Editor, everything is fine. So, I've sent a message about this to the author of ConBuilder, Carlos A. M. Gomes. Hopefully, he will respond with a solution. At that point, I will correct the .eng files as needed and post them here.

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Hi,Chuck, the problem for ConBuilder seems to be the ampersend. I replaced it by an underscore and all runs fine in ConBuilder.
So whenever someone has problems with a name with an ampersend and Conbuilder, just change it to an underscore.
But... don't forget to change all the wagon and engine lines and the name of the .eng file accordingly.Dick van den HovenThe 2 Brill Trollies – image 2

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Dick, thanks for the help. However, this did not fix the problem at my end. I've replaced all the ampersands with underscores. ConBuilder reports no errors, except for the missing quotation marks around the Sound .sms file references, which are not needed unless there are multiple words in those lines. But I put them in anyway.My problem is that ConBuilder recognizes the existance of PRL_PBrill1051, allows me to make a consist (although the electric loco icon does NOT show up in ConBuilder when the Brill is selected), and it saves the consist file. However, it does not appear in MSTS as a selectable locomotive or consist. The same file (with underscores) selected in MSTS Activity Editor works OK, and when made into a consist, will appear in MSTS.Also, there are no ampersands in the original files of ConnBrill.To add futher to (my) confusion, the original connbrill.sd file referenced PRL&PBrill1051.s as the shape file, which does not exist in the folder. How it was able to work at all is a mystery to me. Yet the MSTS Activity Editor will recognize it and make a consist."Mark my words, sinister forces are at work."

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

A clue (maybe):Here's the consist file, as created by ConBuilder:
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0D0t______Train (
TrainCfg ( brill
Name ( "brill" )
MaxVelocity ( 40.00000 1.00000 )
NextWagonUID ( 2 )
Durability ( 1.00000 )
Wagon (
WagonData ( PRL_PBrill1051 brill )
UiD ( 1 )
)
)
)
And the same file, as created by the MSTS Activity Editor:
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0D0t______Train (
TrainCfg ( brill2
Name ( brill1051 )
Serial ( 1 )
MaxVelocity ( 15.64640 0.88203 )
NextWagonUID ( 1 )
Durability ( 1.00000 )
Engine (
UiD ( 0 )
EngineData ( PRL_PBrill1051 brill )
)
)
)

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Hi,This is weird! Very weird.The consist made by ConBuilder creates a consist with a Wagon in stead of an Engine.
No wonder, it doesn't show up in MSTS.I will experiment with it. My Brill showed up, but I don't remember if I created the consist in the AE or in ConBuilder.Dick van den HovenThe 2 Brill Trollies – image 4

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-02 AT 12:30 PM (EST)

Well, Guys, I am baffled. I deleted my old version of ConBuilder, DL'd the newer version plus the update, ran the program after deleting the ampersands and replacing them with underscores in the .eng file as per Dick's suggestion, and still all my versions of the Brill do not show up in CB. However, the ConnBrill DOES, now!!!As also do my GE Steeplecabs, which neither they, nor the ConnBrill never showed up before!! Tis indeed a twisty-turny conundrum, and leads me to believe a complete re-write of the Brill .eng file is the only cure.Then, Chuck, in regards the Connbrill's .sd file pointing to the PRL&P.s file and working, there is a similar puzzle to relate to you that the Brill 1051 I've got that came back from you has/had the .sd file pointing to a .s file called "Brill.s"!! And it still works fine, no errors!! What's up with THAt? Wierd, wierder, wierdest! Hmmmmm.....I'm baffeled. Confused. Need vacation.Tim

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Hi,I have done my experimenting and renamed the eng, sd and s file by replacing the & by _ Then I edited the eng and sd file and did the same replacements.
ConBuilder was satisfied and created a neat consist for me:
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0D0t______Train (
TrainCfg ( Brill51
Name ( "Brill51" )
MaxVelocity ( 40.00000 1.00000 )
NextWagonUID ( 2 )
Durability ( 1.00000 )
Engine (
UiD ( 1 )
EngineData ( PRL_PBrill1051 brill51 )
)
)
)I'll attach my eng and sd file to this reply. Don't forget to rename the s file!Dick van den HovenThe 2 Brill Trollies – image 6

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Dick,This works for me! I copied your supplied .s and .eng files into the Brill''51 folder, deleted all older consists that pointed to the older name with the ampersand, created a new test consist with Con Builder, then ran it in MSTS with no problem (other than a missing heads out view). I then fired up the AE to check to see if it showed in the AE Consist editor, and it did. I don't see the difference in comparison, but I must admit, my monitor is very dark and fuzzy, and hurts to read the small print, so I must be missing something. But I'm grateful for your fix, Dick. I owe you one! Tim

RE: The 2 Brill Trollies

Dick, excellent detective work. Both files worked correctly here, on both Brills.I added the headout view because I like a headout view, and to test whether that was the cause of the problem. Both Brills work OK in ConBuilder with a headout, so that's not it.Engine ( PRL_PBrill1051
Wagon ( PRL_PBrill1051 )
Type ( Electric )
MaxPower ( 100kW )
MaxForce ( 100kN )
MaxContinuousForce( 100kN )
MaxVelocity ( 35mph )
MaxCurrent ( 1000A )
WheelRadius ( 0.5m )
Sanding ( 1e9mph )
NumWheels ( 8 )
HeadOut ( 1.75 2.5 6.0 )However, I was embarassed about the sound that the Conn Brill was making. The relays seemed to be stuck in a loop. I made a quick fix and uploaded a new Sound folder that will work in either (or both) Brills. In a couple of days, anyone interested in fixing the sound on the Brills (brill51.zip and/or connbril.zip) can download the file Brillsnd.zip, which can be used to replace the existing Sound folder.Thank you for your repairs to Tim Muir's (and Frank Roberts' re-paint) Brill Semi-Convertible. You hit it on the head.
