I thought I would see if everyone had packed up their equipment and left. It has been so quite in this forum the last few days you could hear a pin drop. Anyway I figured I would post another pic of our Sacramento Northern GE 650 Class Steeple Cab that we had to put on the back burner several months ago. We are hoping to have it done soon for all you guys. I do have one question though. What is the best way to build the pantograph and how to animate it?

RE: Well, Did everyone Leave?

Not as quiet as in the Auran Trainz Forums I purchased Trainz a couple of weeks ago for a different perspective on the hobby, but am having so much trouble with it and all its different versions and special requirements that I'm considering giving up on it completely, as MSTS is much more straight forward and reliable. Also the MSTS forums are much friendlier, as at least questions generally get replies in here. I've posted quite a few newbie questions on the Trainz forum now without even a single response!Hardly very encouraging to a newcomer BTW, nice looking steeple cab Erik. Long live MSTS and its helpful forums

RE: Well, Did everyone Leave?

Hi Erik,I've been away for a few weeks for personal reasons. I've been tossing up whether to dump my traction work for some time, as I've lost the TSM bug. I have too many semi-completed projects and am somewhat fed up with it all. Sorry to sound glum, but I'm sure I'll get over it soon enough! Terrific work on the steeplecab, by the way.Cheers,
Matt A

RE: Well, Did everyone Leave?

Matt, I started too many models when others were only half done and I found myself getting burned out. I found that when I take a few steps back and pawn off on someone else or delete a project(s) I feel better. I think it is better to have a 2 or 3 nearly done projects (that you can see progress being made on) then 8 half done(they always look the same). This way I am less discouraged.

But then again if it ain't fun anymore why do it?"Keep on Trucking by Train"Erik Pierson

RE: Well, Did everyone Leave?

Hopefully, no one has left, we're all too busy working on models or routes to do much posting. I'm sure it's possible to get burned out on a project, but much of what has done so far in the traction area has been a lot of fun to play with. Every one please keep at it.
I'm looking forward to more of Matt's (both of them) models, the Portland Electric and L&PS routes, and hopefully more to come.

Dave

RE: Well, Did everyone Leave?

I am still enjoying the hobby a lot and have been pretty busy with the next section of the L&PS. The area I am working on now is about 200m long where the L&PS crosses a small town main street. It is taking a lot of time as I am not finding what I need in the library and have had to build most of the main street structures from scratch. So far I have about six new 1920's structures - 2 and 3 story with store fronts etc. There's enough variation in the sides that each can be turned a number of ways to get about 18 different looks. I'll get these up in the library pretty soon and post some progress pictures when things are little more finished. BTW - Tim (tryagin) has been having some computer problems and may not be checking in as often as usual. I hope he gets things worked out as I miss his comments in the forum.Wayne

RE: Well, Did everyone Leave?

Erik, very timely and important topic, for my part, as my reasons for not posting are two-fold: One, which Wayne mentioned, is my monitor grows dim and smears the screen so, it's very hard to work long, or even to type out letters, without eye strain. It Can be replaced, tho. But topping this malady, is a crisis of a personal nature, which I will not burden you with, but demands all of my attention and care, and has quite completely taken the wind from my MSTS/TSM sails.I want to thank all of you for your kind and thoughtful help and commaraderie. I too miss this aspect of this young but great hobby. I've made quite a few friends here, which have enrichened my life, and I am thankful to you. I hope that someday, I can return with some new ( finished ) models, and perhaps pick up where I left off. Be of Good Cheer and best wishes to all of you! And Thanks, Wayne, for your comments. They are much appreciated! You are indeed a scollar and a gentleman!TimPS - Erik, I'm glad to see you picking up the 650 class again. It's looking quite good.tm

Erik
The 650 class is lookin good.
I'm still here, work on the CA&E has halted at Wheaton for the moment as I started creating some needed trackside hardware and some bridges, one thing led to another and now I've got a secenery project backlog to finish in TSM before I attempt learning 3DC
