I'm just starting to place sound regions on my route. I need only 3 sound types -- Default, In Tunnel, and Wooden Bridge -- all from route USA1. I placed four sound region objects -- two Wooden Bridge defining the bridge ends (pointing toward each other), each with a nearby companion Default pointing away -- toward the ends of the route.I copied ttype.dat intact from USA1 to my route's root and fired up the simulator and approached the bridge. The sound changed just as it was supposed to and changed back to Default at the far end of the bridge. Then I got obsessive. The USA1 ttype.dat file has ten entries for ten sound types. I only need three. I edited ttype.dat to delete the items I didn't need and changed the 10 in the count line to 3. Fired up the simulator and approached the bridge. Started with the Default sound and, on the bridge, got silence. At the far end of the bridge, it switched back to default.Yes, I was careful with my editing. Parentheses balanced and all that. Any suggestions?Walt

RE: Difficulty with Edited ttype.dat

Yeah. I'm using WinXP Notepad, which is Unicode aware, and have had no difficulty with editing other files. Just to be sure, I did a SaveAs. Unicode was enabled by default, and after the SaveAs I experienced the same difficulty -- silence in non-Default regions. Then, when I replace it with a virgin copy from USA1, all is well. This, of course, is not a big deal, but it bothers me when something doesn't work as expected.Walt
