I have an idea to place all my sounds from common.snd folder, into the main msts/sound folder, with the reasoning being a simpler setup than the complicated aliasing and sms's etc.In theory i belive msts will allways look into the main sound folder for sounds first? Was wondering if anyone could elaborate for me prior to doing this, as unsure if will work? hoping somebody has tried this also.thanks if can assist Mark
Hi Mark: Engine and wagon files tell MSTS where to look for the sound file. A .wag file will usually have no path, so it goes right to the main sound folder. This is pretty simple as it is just one .sms file. The sound file for an engine contains many .wavs (sounds). The purpose of the eng.sms & cab.sms is to determine what .wavs are played at what time, in sequence, and for how long. The path of each .wav in every cab & eng.sms would have to be changed. If you are having problems with aliasing, I would suggest using ConBuilder. Other option is doing it manually. Check the HowTo section, very bottom of page, for an excellent guide to aliasing cabviews. Lone Wolf Activities at 3D Trains also has a good guide by Kevin Arceneaux. Good luck, hope this helps you.John
