The only horns I've found on the 'net that are said to be used on Soo Line equipment are the S3L and K3LA. Unfortunately, neither sounds the part. I would assume it's due to exhaust inhalation but the sound is about that of a P3, in fact, if you listen to it (I can upload a recording if anyone has better ears than I) the 3 notes appear to be C#, E, A, which is the P3's tuning. Needless to say I'm kinda confused."The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!"
I am not sure but I think they could be P3's I only see them maybe once every 2 months, but I have been needing a SOO SD60 horn for a long time for MSTS Jeremy Smith West Plains,MO BNSF Thayer Subdivision Conductor Trainee
I guess it's a good thing that I made the P3 an option then. http://sgair.net/erick/SOO_P3.wavI had no idea they equipped them with P3s. Some of the SD60s, looking at some video I took, do sound like they've got K3LAs, though."The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. It may be a possibility that the one that you have seen did have a K3 on it since CP now owns SOO and if the horn was shot on that loco, they probilbly would replace it witha K3 since that's what's on all CP locos.Dave
Nah. It isn't a K3. Unless exhaust can make a K3 sound like a P3 (see above sound clip).CP also uses a different model K3. They use the K3H. The only K3's I've heard on Soo units are K3LAs which are tuned way different. From a distance they sound like K5LA's!"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!"
The bloody-nose SD60s use P3s. The candyapple SD60s use P3s and a few, a very small amount, have K3LAs. These K3LAs are the same as used on the Oakways.
That's what I figured, though I've seen a few 'bloody nose' ones with K3LA's.Guess I'll have to take out my generic horn recordings and mock up a K3LA for the Soo sounds then.
