EMD turbo-and-non-turbo soundsets – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Aug-19-04 AT 06:20 PM (EST)

I've uploaded what amounts to a final draft so I could get some opinions before I refine and package with the Soo SD60 package.http://sgair.net/erick/BETAS_MISC/SND.GP38.zipOnce donwloaded, delete your GP38 sound folder (which I assume most of you will do...gladly). Extract these there.Included are 4 SMS files.gp38cab.sms - non-turbo interior
gp38eng.sms - non-turbo exterior
gp38t_int.sms - turbo interior
gp38t_ext.sms - turbo exteriorThe sounds are set up so that anything using the default Geep sounds will by default use the non-turbo soundset. Simply re-alias to use the turbo set if you need to use those.EMD turbo-and-non-turbo soundsets – image 2"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. They should work fine. Anything GM powered that sin't a 4-stroke engine sounds the exact same. I know, I see everything from GP20M's (GP9s) to GP30s (the local "couple" is a GP20M and a GP30), GP38s, SD40s, SD60s, SD70MACs, and everything in between on a daily basis.EMD turbo-and-non-turbo soundsets – image 4"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Well, what did you record it off of? The sounds on a SD40-2 are different from a SD24 for example because the SD40-2 has a 645 engine while the SD24 has a 567 engine.-Dave

The engines are different, the sound is the exact same. I know, I hear all of them at all power levels daily. I live on the BNSF.Any feedback yet? RE: EMD turbo-and-non-turbo soundsets...

HeyI downloaded them and they are pretty good!! The only things are the traction motors drown out the engine sounds in the cab and I've had to raise the sounds in and out of the cab (turbo version). Is there a way that you can make the run 8 sound like a SD40 in run 8??All in all, pretty good Keep it upRedfox

I took care of the traction motors, but as for making the engines louder outside, I really can't because the sound clips are basically maxed out as far as they can go without distorting. Inside, I can raise them a bit.I will be adding a third variation with the next version I upload for the turbocharged GP38. Thinking back to when I lived on the Soo, they didn't whine at all at idle. I changed the internals at high power on the turbo set a bit, too.I will also include trailing unit sounds (the engine sound controlled by speed) with the final variation. I also need to make the bell louder outside, and include a couple extra horns.EMD turbo-and-non-turbo soundsets – image 12"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Erick, the sounds are great! Only thing is on my system at least, loco's aliased to the sounds only get the air brake and bell and horn is they have a gp38.sms file in the "sound" folder in the locomotive folder. Maybe just include a reminder to people that if they engines have that type of alias then they should change the SMS file to the new one or change the alias in the .engThanksRob

Hi Eric,After some resampling/stereo adjustment/volume change/sms-file editing
etc. I finally got it to work; all I can say this baby is very well alive and kicking!I also made, though not perfect, an AI .sms file with the turbo/traction in ( speedcontrolled ); maybe it's of some use for you.Thank you so much for the files and the work,Cheers,Piston Pete
