i am currently working on a new sound set for the challenger (3985), and am running into a sound roadblock ....... the custom whistle and bell i made work fine, but the chuff sounds i have allotted for certain speed windows dont occur when i want them to......i have 18 sounds for when the engine is moving (named x_bb_power_cruise1-9 and x_BB_power_cruise1a-9a(for the second set of drivers to make the out of beat exhaust sound)the sms files nalw made are fine for idle (x_BB_power_cruise0/0a), but no matter what i seem to edit (have tried a few different things) and the sounds still dont corrolate to the proper speed brackets for which i want them assigned for the sounds of the engine chuffs.....
i tried editing this line of code and adding more to suit the new sound to no avail.........Variable_Trigger ( Speed_Inc_Past .....so i am lost as to what dictates when the sound changes at what speeds......if anyone can tell me this, or would like to take a crack at editing the two challenger .sms files to accommocdate what i am trying to do, i would be more than gratefull for the assistance as my area of forte here is texturing/repainting/lighting, not really sounds.....if anyone would like to help me with this, please e-mail me at dupont24montecarlo@excite.com and i will send you the specific speed thresholds i would like chuffs to occur at, and if needed the actual sounds so if you edit sms file, you can actually hear the changes.....note if you dont have an articulated NALW engine of some type (bigboy or challenger)i would recommend downloading upsteam.zip so you have a an articulated steam engine to testbed the sounds/sms files, because a rigid engine wont do any good, as both sets of drivers have thier own sounds.........if anyone doesn't have the time currently to help with what i would consider a fairly large sms editing project, please explain to me here what i can do, i will attach the two unedtited .sms files as well as the speed thresholds below......again if anyone wpuld be willing to attack this project themselves i would greatly appreciate it ......here are the speed thresholds i'd like.3-2.5 mph .... x_BB_power_cruise1.wav
2.5-7 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise2.wav
7-11 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise3.wav
11-15 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise4.wav
15-20 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise5.wav
20-30 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise6.wav
30-55 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise7.wav
55-68 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise8.wav
68-90 mph ... x_BB_power_cruise9.wavhte original .sms files unedited by mehttp://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/40e7d24314564279.zipif any help on this project can be offered, i will be very appreciative of anyone's assisatnce........ i read in a online tutorial of which most was too confusing (but not the following)that the speeds in the /sms are meters/second? if so what would the proper conversion from mph to meters/sec be if this is indeed true. so i could convert the speeds, then put them where they need to go so they will work.......

Bill:
The conversion factor for miles per hour to meters per second is 0.44704.mph*0.44704From working with overspeed warnings, the .sms does use meters per second instaed of mph.Cyndi"Where have all the flowers gone"

How long are each of the cruise .wav files? Bear in mind that each one has to play out after the Release statement before the next one starts to play.

RE: calling any expert .sms edit/creators, for a reques

i figured it out, took a bit of tweaking ...... i thought the numbers that dictated when the sounds changed at certain speeds was MPH, it isn't even kph, not sure what it is, but i got the sounds to work with the right speed brackets....... now i just have to tweak the volume on the last few (sounds drown out the whistle a bit too much)
