Hi everyone:
I am currently in the process of installing verbal overspeed warnings in cab.sms files. This is what I have so far:Stream (
Skip ( **** verbal overspeed wav **** )
Priority ( 6 )
Triggers ( 2
Variable_Trigger ( Speed_Inc_Past 33.10.10 StartLooprelease ( 1 File ( "../aosp.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
Variable_Trigger ( Speed_Dec_Past 33.00 ReleaseLoopRelease () )
)
)It works fine, however, it constantly repeats untill speed drops below trigger. I would like it to repeat at intervals of 5 seconds. Any help will be appreciated.Cyndi

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

You could try this one;
Variable_Trigger ( Speed_Inc_Past 33.10.10 PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "../aosp.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )Although that 5 second interval :S Maybe if you create a single long wave file with those intervals in it? The wave file would not stop anyway until you reach the Speed_Dec_Past value right? Correct me if I'm wrong.I just think of it, why not create a wave file with a five second interval in it? You can skip the comments I made above and use your sms setup the way it is. Like this; (voice) Overspeed..... (5 seconds silence)....(voice) Overspeed..... (5 seconds of silence) and now loop the wave file. You say it repeats the wave file until it drops below that value.... Idea ?

Richard Haagsma

Hi Rich:
Amazing how you can get yourself so involved in something that you can't see the obvious!! Recording with 5 second intervals is something I didn't think of. Thank you ever so much. Cyndi

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

Make sure it's a mono file. Otherwise that 5 seconds of silence makes a much larger file than necessary.-Jeff

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

This would also work:-Stream (
Skip ( **** verbal overspeed wav **** )
Priority ( 6 )
Triggers ( 3
Variable_Trigger ( Speed_Inc_Past 33.10 Enable_Trigger(3) )
Variable_Trigger ( Speed_Dec_Past 33.10 Disable_Trigger(3) )
Random_Trigger ( Time_Max_Min ( 5 5 ) Vol_Max_Min ( 1 1 )
PlayOneShot ( 1 File ( "../aosp.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( SequentialSelection ) ) )
)
) This way you can very easily change the time interval or have more than one voice message being played.Please Note: I'm not at a PC with MSTS on it so the syntax for the Random_Trigger above is guessed and probably incorrect. But looking in one of the default wagon sms's would set you right.

I hope you get it figured out Cyndi as I would love this feature. Save me from staring at the driver aid screen all the time and missing other things.Good luck with it and hope it will be made available to the rest of us if it works ok.Thanks for your efforts in this area.TimWestern Maryland

Ted & Tim:
Once it is all done and I'm satisfied with it, it will be uploaded for all to use and abuse. Meantime have you tried my permsnds.zip? A little plug. Cyndi

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

No, I haven't, but will. What is the program's main function? Well, I will find out won't I? Thanks for your efforts in this area. The speed voice warning thing will be a great addition to the game, at least for me. Thanks in advance. I will give your other program a try and see what it does.TimWestern Maryland

Tim:
The files just replace the original permission files with ones that I think sound a little better. The files I'm working on now are for engine overspeed, but should be able to adapt to speed limit warnings. Right now it only works for 1 speed limit. Am trying to add triggers so it will work for multiple speed limits.Cyndi

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

Hi Cyndi:The first time I inserted your overspeed instructions into the GP38 cab.sms file it worked. However, since I was experimenting I didn't save the file thinking I would go back and do it again later.Now I did it again and I can't get the overspeed to play. The only thing I can think of is that this time I must be inserting the instructions in the worng place in the file.Where exactly should the instructions be placed in the file? As always, thanks for your help.

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

Tony:
I have never posted any instructions for my overspeed warnings. It is still a work in progress, and only about 3/4 finished. Are you referring to my permission sounds? If so, they replace the permission sounds in the GLOBAL \ SOUND folder. Anything specific, let me know.Cyndi

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

Hello again Cyndi:Forgive me if I am worng, but I thought that the beginning of this tread was initiated by your post (# 566). I could be mistaken. Anyway like I said before I tried those instructions and they initially worked fine. I realize that you are still working on this and I am sure that your final product will be something that we will all enjoy. Sorry that I was confused. I am still getting familiar with the forum specifics. Thanks.

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

Tony:
That was just posted as an example of what I had a question about. But to answer yours, it goes in Group 5, just before the Brake section. As shown it is set for 74mph. What are you using for your overspeed warning .wav?

RE: WAV FILE INTERVALS

Hello Cyndi:Thanks for your reply. I was able to get your sample instuctions working. I just made up a simple " overspeed.wav" file to experiment with. Nothing fancy.The reason I became interested in this subject when I saw those instructions, was I thought that maybe a variable such as "speed_limit" could be used instead of a constant number. I tried various combinations of this and each gave an error when the activity was loaded, so I'm thinking that this is not possible. I am sure that your final product will be enjoyed by all.
