Yo Jason...There are 2 ways mate! Ok, lets just say you want to replace the horn on the Dash9 (cos its awful!).1) The name of it that the "eng.file" that the horn sound is, "d9_horn1.wav" and "x_d9_horn1.wav"
If you want to replace the horn. Just say with an authentic Santa Fe S3L, rename the new horn "d9_horn1.wav". Make sure this is OUTSIDE the "Sound" File of the Dash9. One the correct files have been renamed, highlight and drag the new horn files into the SOUND file and click YES to replace. 2) The other option is opening the Dash9 smseng and smscab files(Wordpad works fine). Press CTRL + H to bring up the "Replace" option. Do a search for "d9_horn1.wav" in the file "D9cab.sms". In the "D9eng.sms", do a search for "x_d9_horn1.wav". In both the sms files, replace the text with "S3L_horn.wav" (or what ever horn you want) and press replace. There should be 3 lines of text that you should have to replace. It varies from locomotive to locomotive.I personally think 2 is the best option. Make sure the new horn is in the Dash9 Sound file!!!!I hope this works for you! If not, feel free to drop me an email! Right Mike;
I use the #2 method also, but I rename each set of cab & eng sms files so that I can use more than one horn for that particular unit. I.E.: sl3cab.sms & sl3eng.sms. Or K3LAcab.sms and so on! Ron K of Rockford
