As part of a general upgrade to the PC, I am thinking about changing the sound card.So the question is which one.The one installed is based on the Sound Blaster format. The sound quality is fine, but new sound streams start with a “Clack” sound, typically sounding the horn for the first time results in this. Also approaching trains start with this noise. I have heard that MSTS does not like cards based on the SB format. Is this correct? What is the most popular card?

RE: New Sound Card, which one?

I have always been a fan of the Creative Sound-Blaster "Live" 5.1 card. It is reasonably priced (about $50.00 retail box) and it gives you many options for tweaking your sound. It has what many "on-board" or "integrated" sound cards don't, a Bass and Treble control! I believe if you are going to upgrade this is a nice budget add-on that will seriously improve anything you play and listen to on your PC. Remember however that you will need speakers that also plug-in to the wall outlet, because the typical aftermaket cards do not have built-in amplifiers. If you have PC speakers that only plug in to the back of the PC and not in to the wall outlet, you will need to replace them too. A nice budget pair (including a sub-woofer) is made by Altec-Lansing, and they have many price range sets, so listen to them and choose what your budget allows.Good Luck, SeanK97
