I've been playing around with a new horn file I took from a video of mine, I'm wondering about the Volume statement in the .sms file. On the webpage I looked at about sound editing, it said that the valid values for volume were 0.0 - 1.0. This would lead me to believe that these numbers represent fractions of the full volume. Is there any way to use the volume statement to increase the volume? I can't really increase the wav file's volume anymore in goldwave or I rish cutting parts of it off.Cheers,

RE: Increasing Volume in .sms file

Dave -I've never had any success in using a value greater than 1.0 for the volume - this seems to be the maximum.Try increasing the volume of the original wave file - I know it gets clipped, but sometimes it is acceptable. The alternative is to repeat the entry for the horn in the xxxEng.sms file one or more times. Two entries will double the sound of the horn. But remember to update the value for the total number of audio streams near the head of the .sms file - it's the entry:
streams ( 12If this is a bit difficult for you, just send me the .sms file and I'll do it for you. Cutting and pasting one entry and updating the total is just a 30 second job.Tell me how you go,Phil

Use Goldwaves Effects/Dynamics/Soft Clip to reduce the spikes in the wave profile. I find that if I first do a Max Vol 0.75 then do Soft Clip you can add alot of extra volume with minimal sound quality loss. But it will all depend on the nature of the recording you have.

Compressing is always a good option, compress or limit at or near infinity:1 and you get more punch from the file without clipping.

RE: Increasing Volume in .sms file

Thanks for all of the tips. I did end up compressing it for the final product, that seemed to buy me a little more leeway with the volume.Cheers
