RE: Alco 251 sounds

LAST EDITED ON Oct-20-03 AT 05:14 PM (EDT)

Hi bud, long time no talk to...I guess the correct answer is: There are no Library sounds labeled for a 251. I have found one that I feel is pretty close to the sounds of 251's, even though the author tagged it a 244. (The exterior sounds from said pack are best.) Having been on board 251 powered Alco's numerous times, I like the "snort" they give when the throttle is advanced off idle. The sound pack I'm refering to has this "snort" when switching and you throttle up off idle via the head out view. Unfortunately, nirvana is not thoroughly reached with the sound pack I'm in reference to, for at times there seems to be some confusion of the sound loops when decreasing the throttle notches. (Such as run 4 playing when you hit run 3, that sort of thing.)Overall though, it's not bad and it's free. You may already have the file, so if you do, sorry for the bandwidth waste! Zip file is "alcosnd.zip" in the File Library.Andre Ming

RE: Alco 251 sounds

Bud:Just found some pretty stinkin' good Alco sounds. They're in Gaetan Belanger's Alco's. I don't know if they're available publicly or only through his "donation" Valley Pass Club (I obtained them through Valley Pass), but the snorts and chugging is right on. Good stuff.I've got a pair of his D&H C424's Alco-ing about nicely. I will probably tinker with the sound files and use aliasing to equip my other Alco products with this sound package.Andre

RE: Alco 251 sounds

marko:No apology necessary, mate!I forget and tend to think in terms of US only and answered the original post accordingly. Mea culpa. It would seem to me that an Alco 251 would sound like an Alco 251 whether it's on US rails or Austrailian rails? I haven't had time to download/install the sounds you suggested, but I personally wouldn't care if they came from an Aussie loco or whatever as long as it has that wonderful Alco snort and chug! Thanks for the heads-up.Andre

RE: Alco 251 sounds

I could never get the sounds installed. That aliasing thing hung me so I never bothered with it again.

A lot of people judge me by the color of my skin and fail to see what is within

RE: Alco 251 sounds

Hi Andre, i quess they all sound the same, all being born in the good
old USA.Apologies , was thinking different configurations and engines,
but after a little web search education, most all US and
export Alcos, IE: Aussie builts, utilize the good ol' Alco
engine.Andre, the sounds do have much chug and noise, but due to
differing export EPA standards, possibly not guite as lovely
sounding as the US ones. ('ie' silencers, manifolds, stacks,
spark arrestors, turbo ratings etc? have been altered.)thanks for reply
