What would be the more accurate sound for GE dash9's, ac44's etc?
The deep quiet rumble of the default dash9, or the load chug type
Sounds of the NALW d9-44cw'sThanks
Jerry

Since we made ours from recordings of a Dash 7 and a U33 we are kinda partial to them.....
Though there is a package out there with better traction motor gear sounds..... He isolated his and we left them in the wave samples....BTW, the chug on ours should change in volume and frequency depending on traction motor current which approximates load on the engine and that is pretty much what the 12" to the foot scale ones do.

I actually prefer the low rumble but I also like chug... Just not as much as its present in the NALW one.

RE: GE Sounds

I struggled with the "chug" sound when I put gesnd10.zip together. In the end I elected not to use one.The reason is that on the newer locomotives it is not as noticeable because the new mufflers are much more effective.I also notice when I'm in the cab of a real Dash9 or AC4400 I almost never hear it. If I'm running forward (with the window open) so the sound is being swept away from me I never hear it. Occasionaly if I am running backwards so the exhaust is sweeping over the cab I'll hear it, but not often. Oddly enough if I have the conductor's window open and mine closed I can hear the turbo quite clearly ... other times not. Sounds are very fickle. In the cab with the windows closed I only hear the deepest sounds, and never the compressor by the way.krswen

RE: GE Sounds

Thank you, that is very interesting. I have only operated an EMD gp38-2 a couple of times, getting inside a dash9 or an sd70m is a dream, let alone being an engineer of one.

I put together an AIeng.sms for myself using the default sounds and added radio chatter to it.

RE: GE Sounds

Well, for all my newer GE locos that have 3-axle trucks, I would definitaly use NALW's FDL sounds. For older 3-axle and 2-axle trucked locos, also newer 2-axled GEs, I would use KLW's FDL sounds.Later John Means

What is KLW sounds and where to get it?
I heard some loco in the file library has "alternative" GE FDL sounds included. it's neither NALW nor MLT.
Don't remember which one, maybe somebody here know?
