I just posted on the main forum and will probably get yelled at.I just created an activity and I am using location events to trigger a visual message that simulates a radio call from the dispatcher.I was wondering if there is some way to have a location or some other trigger cause a verbal message to be heard in the cab?I'm sure that someone must have thought of this and determined that it can't be done or others would be doing it but if you don't ask . . . . Facing Point / 3DTrains claim there will be activities featuring that in Surfliner 1.0, however we'll just have to wait and see what happens and try and figure out how they did it. I've lightly explored this and haven't figured out how to do it. Supposedly there is a way though, and eventually somebody still invovled in freeware will unveil it to us mortals... hopefully...I don't think this is some hidden feature of the Activity Editor -- It probably involves going in to the .act file and editing something, like changing a trigger to say something else. Instead of DisplayMessage it might be PlayAudio and what goes in the parentheses is the path to the sound file... that's an untested idea I just made up btw. If it IS something like this then the question from there lies in what the correct trigger is to get it to do this.It would be nice tho if this were possible(and one of the guys at Facing Point claimed it was, on the 3DTrains boards not too long ago), and there's a TON of potential for it... my favorite would mean you could bring a passenger train into a station or be switching cars in a Yard and hear your Conductor doing the car count till you need to stop... I've tried doing this with the pop-up messages and it makes the challenge of spotting a train at a platform even harder since everything STOPS for that message to pop-up.
I have chased that one as well.My idea was to created a sound source and set it to be activated only in the cab. I wanted (and still do) to create talking detectors along the NS East River route. As you approach the sound source it plays a "One Shot" of a wav file. All sort of works but the sound is distorted. I tried changing the bit rate/Stereo mono etc but to no avail. I gave up.Then recently I downloaded the V4 of the NEC route. They have set the grade crossing bells to be heard in the cab and passenger views, but they are still distorted on my PC. Is it just me.Andy KEngland UK
Andy,I will try to check the NEC4 to check the sounds but I think that the problem is that this would require changing the route. We need to find a way to change this in an activity.Rick, President/CEO Blue Ridge & Allegheny RR
It's not a problem. I have deactivated the sounds in the crossing SMS file.It just suprised me as this is the first route I know that has done that.Andy K
