I have been udownloading various engines and most work ok but recently I have run into a rash of either no sound in the cab or no sound outside. I follow the download instructions (I Think). The recent Amtrack P42s with Maple leaf sounds I can't get to work inside the cab, the GT sd40 5900 does not work outside the cab, and the new NALW NEC pack gives me strange error messages which I bypass with the "ok" and then I get no sound outside. I know this is stupid on my part but I just don't get it. I have set up common files for cabs and engines and moved sound files all around but it just doesn't work. Could someone explain or point me to documentation of how sound files work in MS. Thank you in advance for helping this poor and frustrated soul.
Hi Spud,Someone else may be able to point to documentation. If you d/l ConBuilder and Route Riter from the library, and use these to check your system you will most likely find 100's of problems (like I did)Derek
Like Derek said, download CB & RR. 1st time I ran it I also had hundreds of errors. 1 engine had 83 errors, but it only needed a couple of lines to be edited to clear it up. Many times the problem is in punctuation like a missing " or extra ). I remember a program in the library that will check for missing or extra brackets but can't think which one. Hopefully someone will post the name of it. Also had couple engines that looked hopeless for sound, meaning I didn't have time to fool with them. So I just copied the sound folder from the common.sound file and pasted it in the engine folder. I then edited the engine file to get rid of the alias code. This is not a good way to do it. When you d/l conbuilder use the alias function it should help. John
Make Sure your Direct X sound is not set to accelerated. Run DXDiag.exe and click on sound set it to non accelerated. I was having problems with the outside sound views 2-4 and this did the trickJoel
