when i try to run day 3 activity blufield extra board for the east river district i get the following message" sms error: in reading all streams--too many streams c:\xxx\xxx\trains \trainset\ns_1367\sound\gp38cab.sms line418 if i click "ok" then i get a message "failed to load gp38cab.sms" otherwise everything loads up ok ,but i have no sounds at all except the rain.no horn ,throttles, bell in any view..i looked thru the archive and i could not find an answer, i am pretty sure this is not a new question.
Hi,The message too many streams means that the number of Streams specified is out of sync with the actual number of streams.Open the .sms file with Wordpad or an editor. You will see a line Streams ( with a number Below this line, you will see the Stream entries. The number of these entries must exactly the same as the number behind the Streams entry. When you download the little mstsedit program from the File Library (mstsedit.zip), you have a program with which you can easily check the number of Streams. After doing some clicks on plus signs, you will get such a picture. And you can see that the number of Streams is correct in this sms file. Note: It is not the .sms file, you mentioned!! Dick van den Hoven
dick, i d/l the edit program you mentioned and when i placed the gp38 cab sms file into it ,i opened it and scalability 5 called for 11 streams and i counted them and there were 11..so it apears everything is correct but the error message is still there! any other thoughts on how to fix this,or is there an easy way for me to find the offending line 418? and if i find it how would i fix that?
I was getting the same error last night with the same file "gp38cab.sms" which is used with the Ohio Rails RS3. No horn or breaking air sounds. Thanks for the advice, dvdhoven. I'll download the suggested program and hack on the beast tonight. Be Seeing you. Michael
I also resolved my problem by changing scalability from 5 to 3 aparently darkhorse and I have the same downloaded locos with the same problem. Question is is there an easy way to determine what the scalability number should be? I think I understand the stream and the streams declaration.Be Seeing you. Michael
what i found was as you scroll down there are different scalability levels and you have to check eack one ,thats how i found the error on level 3..i have been spot checking other locos with this program ,but there are no errors, otherwise i would get the error message anyway
Hi,The Scalibility corresponds with the slider setting of Quantity of Sound in the Option screen. 5 is the highest setting, 1 is the lowest setting 0 is always played.Dick van den Hoven
