KHP are using it in their latest offering to generate radio chatter. I'm going to try to use it to generate external compressor and dryer blowdown sounds.Anybody familiar with any additional syntax or documentation (other than patterning after the KHP .sms files)? krswen
RE: I'm intrigued by the Random_Trigger command ....
Man are you weird Ken! I personally am intrigued by Nubile Young Red Heads.... LOL However I've thought of that once are twice and did some fooling around a long time ago before I came up with my current technique... If I recall I discarded it because I wasn't able to synchronize it to the the brake release very well, if at all...Maybe you can find something I overlooked?????Chuck Schneider (Virtual) CEO North American (Virtual) Locomotive Works
RE: I'm intrigued by the Random_Trigger command ....
HiTry this: Stream( Skip ( **** Various Random Air Noises **** ) Priority ( 5 ) Triggers( 1 Random_Trigger ( Delay_Min_Max ( 10 45 ) Volume_Min_Max ( 0.75 0.85 ) PlayOneShot ( 6 File ( "..\\..\\Dash9\\Sound\\d9_airb_ind1.wav" -1 ) File ( "..\\..\\Dash9\\Sound\\d9_airb_ind2.wav" -1 ) File ( "..\\..\\Dash9\\Sound\\d9_airb_ind3.wav" -1 ) File ( "..\\..\\Dash9\\Sound\\x_d9_airb_ind1.wav" -1 ) File ( "..\\..\\Dash9\\Sound\\x_d9_airb_ind1.wav" -1 ) File ( "..\\..\\Dash9\\Sound\\x_d9_airb_ind1.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( RandomSelection ) ) ) ) )Plus bump up the number of streams by one.The sounds aren't 100% accurate but it does add a lot of realism. One of the sounds sounds like something mechanical operating. It is a bit much if there are 7 or 8 locos around you but then in the real world these noises would be there also.I used the random chatter from the KHP2 locos as a base for this hack; thanks MLT. I only added it to the eng sounds, don't think the cab sounds need it as well.GaryG

Pretty Slick Gary I may plagerize it if you don't mind... But I'll keep my own method of running the compressor...Chuck Schneider (Virtual) CEO North American (Virtual) Locomotive Works
RE: I'm intrigued by the Random_Trigger command ....
Hi Gary ..... About the time you were posting last night I was trying a very similar approach. Weird minds think alike! The new GE's (the ones with air dryers) blow-down the dryer about every minute or two. The second of these events usually depletes enough main reservoir air to trigger a compressor cycle. So, I created a couple of sound streams; one with just a randon compressor sound (making up for train leakage), one with a blowdown and compressor and a couple of just blowdowns. Chuck, these would be over and above brake-related compressor recharges.I'm going to run with them for a few days to see if anything goofy happens before I package them. I may throw in some random "spitter" sounds too.krswen
RE: I'm intrigued by the Random_Trigger command ....
Now krswen, I do hope you actually actually meant to say "Weird HOW minds think alike!" I was thinking a compresser in there might be nice but didn't try it. Will be watching for what you come up with.GaryG
RE: I'm intrigued by the Random_Trigger command ....
Here's a trick I use with Random_Trigger quite alot. It saves on files. Random_Trigger ( Delay_Min_Max ( 3601 3601 ) Volume_Min_Max ( 1.0 1.0 ) PlayOneShot ( 3 File ( "x_uk_clocktower_3oc.wav" 0 ) File ( "x_uk_clocktower_3oc.wav" 1 ) File ( "x_uk_clocktower_3oc.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( RandomSelection ) ) )The "x_uk_clocktower_3oc.wav" file contains three clock strikes, ie bong bong bong. There is a cue point after the first bong and one at the end of the file. A 0 after the file name plays the first block, ie a single bong. A 1 after the file name plays the second block, ie two bongs. A -1 after the file name plays the whole file, ie three bongs.
