On all real locos. they have a air dryer on them and air is relased from them every now and than is there anyway to make this happen of MSTS locos.....thx
You could probably get sounds from a real loco and mix the MSTS sound with the exhaust sound in a sound editinf program.I have added the noise that GE locos make when their air compressors start up to all my GE's. I haven't done much research, but does anyone know what that noise is (the noise that lasts about 1/2 second right before the compressor starts pumping and makes sort of a higher pitched sound that starts out lower and gains pitch)? Just listen to the attached file of an Amtrak P42DC.
Right ... that Vwooooop sound is the compressor motor spinning up to either twice engine speed (in notches 0-2) or equal to engine speed in the higher notches. The unloader valve gives the motor 2 seconds to spool up before "loading" the compressor. Then you hear the louder compressor sound until the tanks are full, at which point the unloader "unloads" the compressor. The compressor actually continues to spin for another 30 seconds, but you only hear it if you're on the walkway next to it.Inside most modern GE cabs you don't really hear the compressor either ... just the start-up sound, unless the windows are open.I initially had an air dryer sound stream in my gesnd10.zip package, but I ran into occasional problems, so I left it out when I uploaded. I had a 2 minute stream playing random air dryer and "spitter" blowdowns, like 3DTS has with their GP20. However, if I was in the cab and did a "headout" view, the sim occasionally restarted a second identical stream, just slightly time-shifted. It was frusratingly unpredictable. Might have been because I already have a traction motor and turbo stream going as well. There may be a limit to how many streams the sim can reliably play (yes, I had already increased the number of streams to 200).krswen
Why not just throw them in on a random trigger? I've done that with the UP Super Set from Dekosoft and the Pacific Surfliner.Regards, Dan Zollner - 3DTrains http://www.3dtrains.com
