I think it would add more realism as the steam comes out of the cylinders going Pssssh-pssssh-pssh-psh! and then closing them would make it stop. Is there a way to add a sound line for the cocks in the .sms file? Thanks in advance./JonatanSteam rules!

Yes, it is possible, although with limits. Unless I've missed something, there is only a discrete trigger available to work with (cylinder cocks are open or closed), so the sound file that is triggered when the cocks are open would have to work at a single rate of exhaust. A sound file containing two exhaust sounds with a short interval inbetween played in continual loop would have an implied speed, so that you would want to be sure the cylinder cocks were closed before the speed went much beyond that. If someone on the forums has a sound file to use, that would be a help, otherwise you might consider recording one using something that sounds like the cylinder cocks. Exhaust from my air compressor comes to mind as a possibility.
Jonatan, Sorry for taking so long to reply. I have had to replace my hard drive and decided to upgrade to XP at the same time. Has made for several interesting hours. I think my TrainSim is back to normal finally. Your sounds are pretty good. Now is the time to experiment with the .sms files to add them in. Obviously, make a good backup of both the cab .sms and to eng .sms before experimenting. The first challenge is to locate the discrete trigger number for controlling the cylinder cocks. I don't know the answer here -- perhaps someone else on the list can help with this. In the .sms files, each individual stream is contained within a block of Streams which is prefaced by something like the following: Streams ( 13 Stream ( Priority (6) .... You will need to increase the number of streams by one (from the 13 to 14 here) and make a copy of another discrete trigger stream, say the sanding sounds. Notice that the stream will appear twice in two different blocks of streams in both the loco and cab .sms files. Suppose that discrete trigger 50 turns on the cylinder cocks and discrete trigger 51 to them off. You will specify these as the controls. You want to use the StartLoopRelease logic for controlling the sound file, the same as is in use for the sanding sounds. If you have any sound editing software, you can use it to shorten the pauses between exhausts or reduce the number of exhausts if you need to. Also when the sound file loops, there may a different spacing between the last and first exhaust than between the others. (All sorts of fun, you know). I probably won't have time until during the week to play with it. But this is a good way to learn.
Your idea sounds good and I'll see if I can experiment a little. I have GoldWave so the sound editing is an easy task.If we manage to get this working then I bet many others also would like to add this feature to their locos. /JonatanSteam rules!
I plan to give it a try later this week as well. Yes, it would be a good addition. However, I thought of one possible bug with the idea. If your loco come up with the cylinder cocks on initially, you will hear them as if the loco is moving. One thing I thought of trying in this regard is using the cylinder cocks sounds as the first sound file when the loco is accelerating. But that would imply that the cylinder cocks were open whenever starting up. (There is no way I know of to make a sound conditional on both motion and the discrete trigger).
