Hello
This may have brought up before, but how can I get the horn and bell to sound inside of the cab of the control car when Im running in push mode? I can hear it outside, but not inside. and I know in real life youd be able to hear it inside. How can I do this? Thanks

Hi kevin , I'll try to help. These are the Nalw Horizon mbta or mnrr push cab control cars? The cab sounds for these are defined in the engine file ie MBTA_Comcab11.eng . Use Wordpad and look for the 'sound' entry for the cab sounds it should look like this .. not the smiley .. this ...
Sound ( "../../Common.Snd/CabCar/CabCarCab.sms" )
This .sms file is in the Cabcarfolder inside the Common.Snd folder in your Trainsets. If you open the CabCarCab.sms (using wordpad please!) The top of the file has the activation and deactivation section, here's what mine looked like ... ScalabiltyGroup( 5
Activation ( CabCam () Distance (100) )
Deactivation ( ExternalCam () PassengerCam () Distance (100) ) I gotta say the horn and bell both work for me in the sim, but this section of any .sms file will be structured the same . The views in the deactivation part are not gonna hear the sounds this .sms file calls, in this case the PassengerCam view.More Fun..
The big MSTS example of not hearing things in the cabview is the crossing.sms in the default Marias Pass route, it has the crossing sounds deactivated for the cabcam view, to hear crossings on this route you need to just cut and paste the section

CabCam ()
...from the deactivation, to the activation section as the above cabcam is.
Ok Kevin .. just check you do have the CabCar folder in your common.snd folder . I suspect that to be missing ... rather than the lengthy .sms file tutorial , but hehe MSTS is a mystery unto itself, so many ways to mess it up! LOL jv

RE: NALW cab car sounds

Thanks for your help, but that didnt work. When Im in the cab car cab, there are no brake sounds, horn sound, bell sound, anything, its completely quiet until you jack up the volume then you get the genpassenger sound of rolling on the tracks. Any ideas?

RE: NALW cab car sounds

Ok mate no problem.. I tried some lateral thinking, but it hurt
Did you install all the zip files? I had a look at the install history on my machine which does have working cabcar sounds, and I had installed mnbomb.zip first, and then the nalwmbta.zip ...
And then, I looked in the readme for the mnbomb.zip and it said I should install these too !
Genesis Pack 1
Genesis Pack 2
Genesis Pack 3
Genesis Sound Update
to 'use the supplied consists' .. so I had these installed too.
Also I had the f40_set1.zip installed .. just a vast array of excellent nalw stuff !
I run conbuilder to chase syntax errors every time I install a loco! It is suprisingly rare to get a good install without a bit of 'proof reading' , usually missing quotes or errors in the sms files .... there is just so much scope for syntax problems given the number of text lines used to 'make' these engines, it really pays off to run a check every time.
keep on truckin'
