are speed-related. Couplings at 1-2 mph trigger 58. 3-7mph trigger 59 (above that I derail). I haven't found a way to trigger 60 yet. krswen

About 20 lines into an .eng or .wag file you'll find a block that looks like: Adheasion ( 0.19 0.38 1.8 0 )
DerailRailHeight ( 5cm )
DerailRailForce ( 2.5*112.3t )
DerailBufferForce ( 600kN )
NumWheels ( 8 )Most of the rolling stock has the DerailBufferForce set at about ( 200kn ). If you raise that value, the train can couple at faster speeds. (NOTE: the cars at both sides of the joint have to be adjusted)
For my personal use, I arbitrarily set the value at about 100kN per 16 tons, staying on the even hundred, and never less than 200kN nor more than 800kN. That way, I don't have to sneak into a joint at 2-3mph, but I still have to be careful about my speed into lightweight rolling stock.
This is just my way of doing things - if someone has found something better, they're welcone to suggest. I'll try anything out at least once.
