Greetings, I'm trying to finish up my repaints and mods to my LIRR consists, and I've been playing with some sound files. Is there a way to reverse the sound of the independent brake ? Upon applying the brake there is an exhaust sound when in realty only upon release is there an exhaust sound. "Bail" off sounds OK though. I am not to familiar with the sound files so I don't want to screw them up. Thanks as always! KRO52
You can't screw them up any more than Kuju did! Don't get your hopes up about improving things much.I'm in the middle of an exercise to document the triggers for each in-cab lever movement. The way I'm doing it is: I recorded my voice saying "14", "17", "54" etc etc and substituted them for the MSTS sounds in the eng and cab.sms files. Then I made a special "testcab.sms" file calling the new recordings. Now I'm carefully moving each lever through the range of motion in both directions and documenting which triggers are activated.Preliminary conclusions: Kuju's comment statements in the code are completely bogus. And, when you first release your train brakes and get a satisfying Woooosh .... better remember it because you'll never hear it again. MSTS only plays it once in your whole session no matter how many times you set and release the brakes (it's trigger 17). Same with the independent brakes.Once I complete the documentation, I'll report out on this forum and ask folks who have more time in actual cabs than I do to tell us which sounds are the most realistic. I'm not sure what we can do about the "one time only" triggers though. krswen
Hello krswen, I feel better now. It must be top secret as to their sound files. I'll be able to help with the sounds as I have spent 32 years with the LIRR as a loco. shop forman, recently retired. I spent a lot of time doing air work and riding and operating the beasts. I'll be glad to help. Thanks for the reply ! KRO52
Thanks KRO52 ..... I'll take you up on the offer when I get the survey complete. What I'll be doing is identifying the triggers that are activated, under what conditions, and asking railroad-experienced people to audition the MSTS sound waves and determine which are most realistic for each trigger.Or, if they need to be lengthened, shortened, volume changed etc etc so I can make modifications.Status report: I've gone through the default Dash 9 and the default Sd402. I'm trying to sort out some subtle differences and will be comparing brake system performance with real-world performance specifications. Should have something to share in a couple of days ....krswen
I take my hat off to you krswen! I have thought about doing the same thing as you have described above but always baulked at the idea. It sounds very tedious. But we will all very much appreciate you results.Look forward to your post.
