has anyone have ANY recording of the horn of the Australian NR class - the model is perfect but it has the wrong horn- i was woundering - if someone could email me any recording of its horn - i could crop it - and loop it - and make a proper horn cheers mike
Not sure what type of horns they use...by any chance, do you have a photo of one of the locos that would show the horn? I canusually identify the horns by appearance, if they are a more-or-less standard horn (most horns are...) I co-authored two horn spotting articles about 25 years ago for one of the railfan locomotive magazines (Extra 2200 South)
its a kinda wierd horn - its not north american - there are only 3 locos in australia that use them - the NR's, QR 28 class and QR 40 class heres a shot cheers mike
Wow!!! Now THAT is what I call a striking livery!!But I cannot make out the horns in too good detail. They definitely do NOT look like anything we have in North American.I take it those locomotives were designed and built in Australia?
these are Cv40-9i locos - NR1 through to NR60 were built in Sydney, NR61 through to NR121 were built in Perth (on the other side of the country) Because of the restrictions on Aussie railways, basicily - they are pure C40-9's in a different carbody shape which is abit smaller and lighter than its North American counterpart heres a better pic of the loco's horn hahaha - it would be sooooooo hard to repaint this thing for MSTS lolcheers mike
Tell you what -- someone down there likes horns. Those look quite musical. They did not waste any effort on making them so prominent!!The trumpets do look very similar to the Leslie Supertyfon (S5T, etc.) horns from here in the USA, but the way they are mounted is NOT a Leslie mounting. I'd love to hear those things.
these are the best sounding horns in the world - they QR 2800 class have similar horns - but dont souns as good as theseseeing 3 of the NR class on a double stack train through the hills here and hearing that horn ringing off the hills is an awesome sightthey are similar to the K5LA - but sound heaps better - loli cannot find any sites with aussie train recordings on it cheers mike
