Hi Folks,I'm trying to get some background music into my observation car, but I seem to have some problems with it. First, here's my directory structure:- MILW_OH -- SOUNDNow within the root directory (MILW_OH), I have my .WAG file for the observation car. Within the file, I have this:Inside ( PassengerCabinFile ( "skytop_int.s" ) PassengerCabinHeadPos ( 0 2.3 8.50 ) RotationLimit ( 20 270 0 ) StartDirection ( 0 0 0 ) Sound ( "stpass.sms" ) )In my SOUND directory, I have the "stpass.sms" file that contains this:SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0x1t______ Tr_SMS ( Skip ( *********************************** ) Skip ( *** Scotsman Passenger Wagon *** ) Skip ( *********************************** ) Skip ( ** Only the one as nothing fancy like a piano ** ) ScalabiltyGroup( 3 Activation ( PassengerCam() ) Deactivation ( ExternalCam() CabCam() ) Stereo() Volume ( 0.2 ) Streams ( 1 Stream ( Priority ( 3 ) Triggers ( 1 Initial_Trigger ( StartLoop ( 2 File ( "skytop1.wav" -1 ) File ( "skytop1.wav" -1 ) SelectionMethod ( RandomSelection ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) I also have the "skytop1.wav" file in my SOUND directory as well.Now when I run the consist in MSTS, I get this error:SMS error: At top layer File: C:\Program Files . . . \stpass.sms Line 2and the next error message:Failed to load SMS file: stpass.smsThen MSTS crashes and sends me back to the desktop.Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?Thanks!Brian.
Hi Brian. Valiant effort at a descriptive post.Did you try playing the "skytop1.wav" to see what it was? My guess, because it's in the "random" area is that it's some sort of track sound. Do you have a wagon that plays something (musically) in the passenger car (view)? Did you look at that .sms? Did you listen to the file played and add the "call" to yours but with a change in the sound file that's launched?These things will help. Still Stuck? Get back to me here, please and not in e-mail. I do not like 1-on-1 because it denies the forum of the resolution or lack of same.Regards,Mike Apsey
I haven't tested my theory, but I think the Volume line may be out of place. I would think it belongs in one of the streams themselves, as I don't recall ever having seen one just in the ScalabilityGroup level. I could be wrong, though.
I have found that after editing an .sms file there is a chance that it can, some how, become 'corrupt'. The only answer I've found is to start editing again from an original copy of the file.How large is the "skytop1.wav" file?
The .wav file is only 4MB in size. However, I tried a smaller one, and it still did the same thing.The code I showed above was copied directly from the Scottsman directory, so I can only assume it would work? <sarcasm>Microsoft would surely not release something that does not work</sarcasm>Brian.
Hi Brian.. Try modding the sms file in that CP heavy (Mt.Stephen) I sent ya. just change the wav names, and interior vew positions, and it should work.. Cheers HAC
You wrote to Brian the following...>Hi Brian.. > Try modding the sms file in that CP heavy (Mt.Stephen) I >sent ya. just change the wav names, and interior vew >positions, and it should work.. >Cheers >HAC We have been trying to get other background music into the observation car where the "A" train plays. We were naive enough to think that we could just replace the "A" train wav file with another of our choice < while renaming it - keeping the integrity of the named file in relationship to whatever instruction file might be used in order to tell the trainsim what to play > That sounds confusing perhaps. I'm sorry. Anyway, it didn't work. It still played to "A" train wav file. I even hid the "A" train wav file elsewhere - but it still found the original file, and played it instead of the new replacement Would it be asking too much for you to tell me if changing the great background music is too hard a thing to do. Perhaps a selection of music might be possible ? " In the mood" etc....Yours truly,Pam & Andrew {Chugger_2}
