I've had trouble recently with cab sounds from the NALW train packs. The external sounds are OK, but when I'm in cabview, all i get is the ambient noise. I have found the cause, at least in my case, the "quantity of sounds" setting MUST be set on "High."I don't know anything about sms files, but would it be possible for the developers of the NALW units to either reduce the number of sounds you try to play at once in cabview or come out with a "streamlined" version with just the basic engine and horn sounds.

RE: NALW sound files -- problem found

If we did that we would be re-releasing the MS-Kuju default sounds....
If you really want to reduce the number of sounds... And why I can't fathom... As it does not produce the same problems as too many lights does. substitute the Dash9 sounds for our Genesis sounds and the new sd40 sounds for our F40 sounds.... And you can use the GP38 sounds for our Alco PAs.....Chuck Schneider

Putting a warning about this might be a good idea, especaially if someone has left the M$ default sound settings (in my case, low) alone. Also, I would never consider using EMD sounds for an ALCO -- not unless the engine belonged to Katy

RE: NALW sound files -- problem found

The only configuration difference for the various sound settings (low/medium/high) is in the amount of memory allocated to the sms system, which is mainly used for the storage of the .wav files. Look in the Global folder at the file called sound.cfg (or is it soundcfg.dat, I can't recall).Regardless of your sound hardware MSTS only uses 60 sound streams (20 2D and 40 3D). If you want to tweak your system to play more then check this out.http://forums.atomic-systems.com/viewtopic.php?t=8717
