Hi all, well, another bug crept in. Now I am getting the "too many streams, cant load ...sms" OK, I have a new motherboard with onboard sound, but still have the soundblaster5 installed, which worked fine before the upgrade.I kow others have had this trouble, so how do you cure it? Thanks and many heap big well wishes!!Kelley D. Ellison
Kelley that just means that the SMS file referenced has too many streams defined in one of the SLs (Sound Levels) you have to open the SMS file and count streams for each SL to ensure they are correct! BTW what was the last thing you changed or installed before this happened?Chuck Schneider Chief Cook and Bottle Washer North American Locomotive Works
Hi Chuck, This has only been going on since the new MB was installed. I never thought about it when I bought it, but the onboard sound must be causing it. I still have the same sound card in as before....but I never had the trouble.sigh will it never end???lol Thanks!! Kelley D. Ellison
Have you disabled the onboard sound card using the bios on boot up?? If you have two sound "cards" you might have some conflict going on. Your sound card should be better than the onboard one anyway. Good luck. Georges from London.
Hi Georges from London, OK, how do I disconnect the onboard sound? I don't need it anyhow. I prefer to use just my sound card. Thanks much for the tips!! Kelley D. Ellison
This applies to MY mobo...but I imagine yours should follow a very similar pattern When the first screen comes up on booting you should see right at the bottom a line saying "press 'del' to enter set up".. press delete and you get a BIOS screen with many headings..at the bottom of that screen is a list of the keys to use to navigate. On mine I go to " Integrated peripherals" and press 'ENTER' which leads to a long list of items...look for 'onboard sound' and 'disable' it. Press f10 to save and exit...and the boot process should continue normally after. As I haven't got a scanner or printer I have disabled my serial and parallel ports,USB2 controller etc..which frees IRQs. Remember this is my mobo I'm talking about..refer to your manual as it should have it explained....and if in doubt don't delete ANYTHING...I can find my way round the bios now but I have had some VERY scary moments when I've been too adventurous!!!!! Be careful and take things very easy...one at a time..remember you are the one making the decision not me.... Best wishes and keep us informed. Georges from London
