Is it just me or does everyone have a lag (about one second here) from a press of the spacebar to the sounding of the whistle/horn of any train, any time.Of course the next question is can this lag be somehow minimized?I wouldn't mind, were it not for the corresponding delay in the whistle-steam effect when driving steam locos. My system specs now going up in my profile.Kind regards, MikeBuilding your Railroad to Margaritaville http://home.tampabay.rr.com/musings/keys.htm
Yeah it happens most of the time. The proper grade crossing sequence is not able to be done right. I did a CSX K5 horn that plays the --0- when the space bar is pressed. I guess you could call it the auto horn. I guess its still in the library.
I made the Grade Sequence sound correctly by modifying the wav files to play a long, long, short, long way back in June of 2001 right after MSTS was released. Luckily I used the correct original files, in the same format, and pulled it off before ever realizing that MSTS is real picky about wave files etc. If your engine is set to activate the bell when you blow the horn, then you will probably like my files. I made the bell sequence about 10 seconds long. So when I press Spacebar then B, I get the crosiing sequence and 10 seconds of bell that then cuts off. Also, anytime you hit B, you get 10 seconds of bell. I have used it ever since. The only drawback is that you no longer have the ability to do a single blast anymore. This is for the Dash-9. If you are interested, you can search the files for Kyle Hendrix, and the files will be the last two hits.
I have received the following response to this same question posted in the UKTrainSim forum by "salopiangrowler" (Shrewsbury ) which states: "Its the same on a real engine, trust me ive driven a 25 and 37 and theres a second lag from the time you lift or drop the horn to it sounding"Those are diesels? Is it the same for US locos?Kind regards, MikeBuilding your Railroad to Margaritaville http://home.tampabay.rr.com/musings/keys.htm

RE: Spacebar whistle/horn lag?
i've been in a Amfleet Cab Car, Bombardier Cab Car, CP Rail GP9, SP Dash 9, UP SD60M, SP U25B and non of them had a one second lag.that's my major beef with the game... is the horn timing
