I'm not sure if it's just my system; but the GE engine sounds released by NALW around the same time as 'gemegav2.zip' sound like they're a little on the 'scratchy' side..With my speakers, it sounds like somebody stuck a mike into the engine compartment; right up against the engine itself..Is it normal to hear the fuel spraying and sloshing around? Cuz that's what it sounds like.. And is there a way to 'muffle' the .wavs? If so, what program would I need?
The "Deal" as you so aptly put it is that on modern locomotives like the GEs there is no direct relationship between throttle position and Engine RPM so throttling up produces different artifacts depending on load among other things.... I have tried to portray that with this set..... also I was trying to "muffle" the sound somewhat in the cab as modern cabs have pretty decent sound isolation. All this within the limitations of the MSTS sound engine which is not very well done IMHO! Sounds pretty much like a GE-FDL 16 running to my ears ( which it should since it is based on an actual recording )... We didn't release any GE Engine Sounds around the time of the GeMegaPak... We released a set of FDL sounds made from real recordings as part of the megapak..... If you want to try to "clean them up go" ahead... It will be interesting to see what you come up with.... However, Just remember you can't release them with out going through us..... FWIW, I don't get those Buzzing artifacts on my speakers ( Creative SB5300 attached to Audigy-Gamer and running in 5.1 mode ) So it is hard for me to fix if I can't hear it.... Hmm..I wasn't sure about that..The engine(s) sound great, aside from the slight distortion i hear..Ran DXDIAG, nothing wrong with my sound..I'm using Altec-Lansing ACS22 speakers; w/a Soundblaster sound card..I'll try to tinker with em, to see if i got any settings wrong..
Hey Shawn it could be me that has wrong settings... But like I said I can't hear the "rasp" or noise you are talking about.... Interesting thing is Curt complained of the same thing and on his system the "chug" was apparently really noisy....Chuck Schneider Chief Cook and Bottle Washer North American Locomotive Works
