Well, I managed to get radio chatter to work in a Dash 9. I even made my own radio file and got it to work. I also have read the various sound tutorials discussed here. So, I decided to try to get radio chatter in the CSX SD-70. After 4 hours of trying, it still doesn't work. I've checked syntax carefully and compared files to see if I've missed anything. Evidently I have, but I can't find it. Any experienced .sms-ers out there have a suggestion? Also, rather than have a continuous loop, would it be possible to trigger the radio chatter with another operation, say taking the brakes to full release, for example. Thoughts appreciated.
So far I've found three types of radio stuff; The french radio chatter stuff thatworks with the french locos I use with the lgv med route, which is 6 loops I think that either repeat randomly or give random 'one-shot' plays if the 'b' button is pressed. Then there's the variation of this theme with the bnsf cab chatter set which is one long loop I think. More interesting is the 'hot-box detector' variation found on the Cajon because these can be location dependant, useful for freight yard activities as different yards can then have different dispatcher/freight order loops. Imagine if you not only had to download stock and engines for activities but also sound files as well! It certainly helps the 'immersion factor' but I think we are a ways from being able to use sound in an activity as a part of the scenario .jv
