RE: I think ive found the best UP stream

Thank you for the link. I usually used the one out of Alabama on the CSX. Lots of choices, and I thank you again.

Nice link. This is cool, although there is a lot of dead time when listening to these channels. Does anyone know how I can find the stream on my hard drive? Does it get saved anywhere? It doesn't seem to be in the Temporary Internet Folder.

RE: I think ive found the best UP stream

I could not find a Temporary Internet File location for the stream, but I was able to record it. I connected to the web site, listened in using WinAmp (MP3), launched GoldWave, changed the recording device to MonoMixer Input (turned it up all the way), and started recording. When you get something you want, save the selection.

RE: I think ive found the best UP stream

I made a little .sms file (attached, below) called detector.sms, which is a Sound Source file. Anyone interested in testing this can record one of those automatic detectors, and save the detector sound as a 11025hz, 16 bit, Stereo, .wav format file, file name detect4.wav. I tested this with a female voice Union Pacific detector recorded off the site at the top of this thread, however, due to the attachment file size limit, it is not included in the .zip attached here.Place the .wav file and this .sms file in the Sound folder of the route of your choice. Using Wordpad, add the following line to the ssource.dat file in that route's root folder:
Sound ( Name ( "Detector - UP" ) FileName ( "detector.sms" ) )Then, go into the Route Editor, and place a Sound Source (Yellow Monolith thing) at the location of your detector. This will only be heard in the Cab (Camera #1) view. Also, it has a range of 1000 (meters, I think), so it you have a real long detector .wav file, it may not play all the way through. The distance is adjustable in the .sms file. You can change the description line above ( "Detector - UP" ) to any words you want to describe the sound.

RE: I think ive found the best UP stream

One more suggestion, if you don't want to mess around with .sms files. Connect to the radio site at the top of this post, pick a link to listen it to a radio channel, then launch MSTS. At least on my computer, the Internet radio chatter will play in the background while the sim is running. I didn't notice any bad things happening while I was running a train.

RE: I think ive found the best UP stream

Real life is fun isnt it! I hooked up to the vancouver sub and then set out on Cajon while listening to the radio.. it was great , the guys were dealing with a derailment, had the repair crew up there, speed restrictions the whole nine yards bells and whistles.. so then I tried the santa fe sub for some mexican drivers.. and there was a woman despatcher who was sweet talking everyone , called the drivers all by name ) .. I tell you it was all a going on ,some fine repartee, track orders, and the odd bnsf hotbox and speed reports..
Yep by the time I got to west colton I felt I knew em all, the freight guy who wanted to get his train out of the other end of the yard from the one the despatcher had chosen ..The amtrack driver, just wanted to get on , everyone was calm and polite ..
