I'm wondering if you are able to customize the yellow sound source poles that came with the game? It would make a world of difference in certain areas, like a farm or a parking garage for instance. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanx

RE: Customizing Sound Sources???

LAST EDITED ON Oct-21-02 AT 02:02 PM (EDT)

This is fairly easy. Get a sound source (almost any format), give it a file name, and save it as a 11025hz, 16 bit, mono .wav file. Open (in Wordpad) almost any existing .sms file for a Sound Source. Change the .wav file name to your new file name. Save the modified .sms file to a new file name. Then, place a statement in the ssource.dat file of the route(s) you intend to use the new Sound Source in. The example below is the gen_mont_ind1.sms file from the USA2 Sound folder. Change the .wav file name (in red) to your new sound .wav file name.SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0x1t______Tr_SMS ( ScalabiltyGroup( 3

)Open the route's ssource.dat file, add a line to reference this new .sms file. Here's the same (gen_mont_ind1.sms) file statement from the USA2 ssource.dat file:Sound ( Name ( "Industrial 1 - Medium (550m) - Montana" ) FileName ( "gen_mont_ind1.sms" ) )Change the name of the .sms file (in red, above) to the new one, change the description (in blue, above) to any words you want to describe your new sound. One more note to the above. Notice the statement in the original .sms file STEREO (). This would tell MSTS that the .wav file is a stereo format. I recommend making your Sound Sources mono to save file and memory space. A stereo file is about twice as large as a mono file. Obviously, you can have twice as many mono files in a given memory allocation as you can have stereo files. So, remove the STEREO () statement. If you really want a stereo file, simply save the .wav file as 112025hz, 16 bit STEREO.Edit: place the new .wav file and the new .sms file in the Sound folder of the route that you intend to use them in.
