Hi there: I would like to get into downloading and changing the sounds in my engine fleets. For Example...I would like to take the MLT SD-40 Horn and put it on my CN SD-40. How would I go about doing that? Now, say I want to put a more realistic VIA Rail horn on a P42? Say I wanted to take the SD40 Sounds from the new BNSF SD40 and put it on something else? How would I do that? A Basic Tutorial here is what I'm looking for. Any help, greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The easiest approach to this would be to simply re-name the .wav files. For instance, assume the MLT horn sound file name is MLThorn.wav, and the CN SD-40 horn sound file name is CNhorn.wav. Place a copy of the MLThorn.wav in the Sound folder of the CN SD-40. Re-name the CNhorn.wav to something like CNhorn.old, then re-name the MLThorn.wav to CNhorn.wav. You will need to do the same for the external horn sound file. If the creators of the MLT and the CN models followed MSTS naming convention, then those files should be named x_MLThorn.wav and x_CNhorn.wav.
