I'm looking to add some specialized sound sources to my Osprey Lake and Northern route (Waltz music comming from the O'Donahue Castle, Brass band playing in the park at Beecher, Teddy Roosevelt giving a speech, amongst others) and was wondering what all is involved in creating a sound source, and if there is a tutorial?Don

Ride the Route of the Bathing Beauty, ride the Osprey Lake and Northern.

You can make a simple Sound Source by using any of the existing Sound Source .sms files, and change the name of the .wav file to the name of the .wav file that you want to use. As an example, here is the church.sms file from the Global Sound folder.SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0x1t______Tr_SMS (Skip (mono loop & spot ) ScalabiltyGroup( 3
Activation (
ExternalCam ()
Distance (500)
)
Deactivation (
PassengerCam ()
CabCam ()
Distance (500)
)
Volume ( 1.0)
Streams ( 1
Stream (
Priority ( 2 )
Triggers ( 1
Initial_Trigger (
StartLoop ( 1
File ( "obj_summer1.wav" -1 )
SelectionMethod ( RandomSelection )
)
)
)
)
)
)
)Change the line that says
File ( "obj_summer1.wav" -1 )to
File ( "teddy_speech.wav" -1 )and save the file as teddy.sms.Copy and paste the teddy.sms and the teddy_speech.wav files in your route's Sound folder.Then put a line in your route's ssource.dat file (located in the route's root folder) like this;Sound ( Name ( "Teddy Speech" ) FileName ( "teddy.sms" ) )All of the above edits should be done with Wordpad. The .wav file should be recorded at 11025hz, 16 bit, mono.Also, the above example plays the sound only in the external (#2, #3, #4) camera views. If you want the sound in the Passenger (#5) camera view, move the PassengerCam statement from Deactivation, and paste it under Activation. Same for the CabCam (#1) camera.If you need help making the .wav file, here's how:
