I have made a consist of four P42 Genesis engines and some superlinercars to make the Empire Builder. I loaded MSTS and started an activity, but when I release the brakes a little the air in the Brake Pipe and in the EQ Resivoir goes from 110 to 0. Then when I release the brakes completely the compressor starts up and fills the tanks. When the tanks get full enough the air in the brake cylinder empties out so I can get my train moving. Is this a bug in MSTS?

RE: Problem with the Genesis

Hi there,
The answer is yes and no!
Depends on who you ask and how you look at it.....
To my mind it is simulating right after coupling and when you open the air cock(s) then the train line must be pumped up to around 70psi (on its way to 110 which is the passenger service value in North American Practice) so that the valve will release the brakes.....
This is semi-prototypical.....
There are ENG file and WAG file changes to mitigate it somewhat but then you have a 1 min train-line charge on 50 cars.... not too prototypical......Hope this wasn't too confusing.....

RE: Problem with the Genesis

Hey - i dont know if this is realated to your problem - but here goes. I had P42's 111 - 32 and 182 on superliners and boxcars (SouthWest Chief) and i have the alerter on (for realisim) and set off on the Ohio River Line. I was passing through some valleys and taking screenshots of the train. i went into a tunnel and the train slamed into emergency ( i was in passenger mode - 5 - and i noticed the predicted speed was at 0 - so i went into the cab and i forgot to restart the alerter and therefore - emergency.I realesed the brakes - nothing happened - just the sound - i pressed z to restart the alerter - nothing happened - i pressed / to bail off the brakes - this seamed to work - i held it down - trying to get the brakes realesed and get going again (the southwest chief stuck in a tunnel is the last thing amtrak wants!!! - lol) After the brakes have been released - the brakes didnt seam to be recharging so i kept holding the / button - more sound of the brakes recharging. 5 min later i got fed up - put the reverser in forward and notched up - i couldnt go anywhere?!?!?! - is this normal - or is there something wrong - the tunnel was flat - no gradeints in any way. Whats the saying - "As real as it gets" - this was Amtrak's Southwest Chief so i guess the saying is living up to it's standard - lol
Cheers
Mike

Hmm..better check the eng file settings... MonitoringDeviceAppliesFullBrake
MonitoringDeviceAppliesEmergencyBrake
MonitoringDeviceAppliesCutsPower
MonitoringDeviceAppliesShutsDownEngine
MonitoringDeviceTriggerOnTrackOverspeed

check for these in your .eng file and change the values to the right of them to '0'.
Also, I noticed when playing for a while that if you notch up too fast, wheelslip or not, you will stop moving; especially on a powerful engine.
