I'm not an expert, but I've made a few sounds, to be used in MSTS as Sound Sources. I assume this is what you mean.First, back up your route's Sound folder, and the ssource.dat file in your route's root folder (BayLine). Then go out and get the sound you want. I've been able to use .wav, .MP3, .wma, .au, .asx, and a few other file formats as sound sources, but haven't had much luck with .ra or .ram (RealAudio) file formats. Then open the sound file in a sound editor like Gold Wave http://www.goldwave.com and edit it (mark start and stop locations), and Save Selection as a 16 bit stereo 11025 hz .wav file.Then go to your route's Sound folder. Find a .sms file for a simple sound loop. Almost any .sms file will do. Open it in Wordpad and change the .wav file name to the one you just saved (sample below, see the line that says "cow_one_moo.wav", change that to the name of the sound you just made), don't change anything else.Stream (
Priority ( 2 )
Triggers ( 2
Variable_Trigger ( Distance_Dec_Past 280
StartLoop ( 1
File ( "cow_one_moo.wav" -1 )
SelectionMethod ( RandomSelection )
)
)Save the .sms file to a name similiar to the .wav file. Put both files in your route's Sound folder.Now, go to your route's root folder (BayLine) and find the ssource.dat file. Open it in Wordpad and add a line similiar to the one that follows, changing the FileName to the .sms file you just made above. The word that are in quotes after the Name below is what will apear as the description in the Route Editor. Sound ( Name ( "Cow 1 Moo" ) FileName ( "cowmoo.sms" ) )Save the ssource.dat file, and you should be able to find your new sound in the Route Editor's Placement window.I would advise being conservative in making the .wav file (in regard to the length of the loop), because it can add up pretty quickly. A simple 10-15 second loop starts approaching a meg in size. Also, you might want to consider a naming convention, like "bird_dove.wav" and "bird_macaw.wav", to make it easier to find all you bird sounds in one place. If you need further assistance, or need sources for sound files, e-mail me and I'll help you along.cz@centurytel.net
