Is anybody planning on making a cab for a spartan cab sd70? MLT released the units with their NS pack but the cabview that they included with it is analog, instead of digital like the one on Al Krug's website.
Not all of the NS SD70 spartan cabs have the ICE gear.Units 2501 thru 2531 came with the analog displays. Some of the GP60s have the computer displays also.I'll have to do some research to find which units have the computer displays.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh East
Ok, I was just going on what I have seen in photographs before. The picture on Al's site is from NS 2550, which is one of the newer units while the MLT SD70 is 2531, one of the older ones. Also, in an archived post in this forum, I recall seeing a screenshot of an SD70 cab that NALW or somebody was making.
I'm going to assume that the 'Spartan cab' would be the widecab, thus named because widecabs, like the Spartans, are gay?"The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!"
It's called a spartan cab because is has the design of the sd40 low nose type cab.Nothing gay about it at all.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh East
It is a design that allows railroads to buy the 4,000 HP SD70 without having to spend money on the widenose cab. I'm not sure if railroads can still buy spartan cab locomotives though.
I was being sarcastic. You have to admit that 'Spartan' does suggest a lot though. Perhaps they should call it the 'John Wayne cab', no? "The F59PHI and Genesis are the lamest excuses for locomotives Amtrak has ever operated - accept it and move on. Hug an F40 before it's too late!"
You won't get a spartan cab these days from EMD or GE.Everything now has the wide cab or North American safety cab as it was originally called. The wide cabs are cool but I still favor the spartan cab design.I've spent alot of time in those spartan cabs on the NS.Claude Debnam NS Piedmont Division Raleigh East
