Are there any tutorials on adding cabsignals to an existing cabview? I've tried the only way I could figure out in the CE, but the result locks and crashes the sim. I added a cabsignal panel from another loco, set up the parameters in the add display dialog. What else has to be done?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,Hank

Hank:
Did you also move over any necessary .ace files?
Do the number of controls in the .cvf file match the total number being called for? What kind of cab do you want the cab signal in?Cyndi

RE: Cabsignals

CyndiACE files, yes I have done that.Doesn't the .cvf file get updated when you add something via the editing window?I'm putting one in the default GP38, since I use that loco the most when I'm testing signals and script.Regards
Hank

Wow, someone still remembers me! The filename is
gp38bsig.zip
and is 863 kb. It is almost 2 1/2 years old, but was my first solution to the dreaded "can't see the distant signals problem".
If you have a high speed connection, there are a couple more of mine that have cab signals, specifically NALW approved repaints with modified cabs with signals.

RE: Cabsignals

Thanks, CyndiI d/l'd and have it running. I reworked the graphic a bit to reflect the heirarchy of signal aspect tokens I use in my scripts.I use APPROACH_1 and CLEAR_1 exclusivly for diverging routes. This allows the distant signal to be able to distinguish between a junction signal being set for a main or diverging route and show the appropriate aspect. But I opened up Kyle's work in the CE to see how he set up the cabsignal display and the D**M thing locked up and crashed.I guess I'll leave the CE with all the bugs I don't know about alone. I've got plenty on my hands working around all the bugs in the RE.Thanks for the help.Regards,
Hank

RE: Cabsignals

Hi Hank:
I know what you mean about a buggy CE. Haven't been able to use mine since last Nov. Good thing I prefer modifying ace and cvf files by hand.Cyndi

Well Cyndi, It should be easy enough to do for you if you want it. Just give me some time to get to it. To be honest, I had not considered it because I've been hooked on the Dekosoft Geep night version, ever since Chip first came out with it and allowed me to join in and darken them.(It helps that I'm a CSX area fan)
Also to you and Hank..I too have NEVER used the cab editor, and have always modified the cvf's and aces manually...It just takes a little trial and error.
Kyle

RE: Cabsignals

I get the same type of problem with the cab editor, sometimes works sometimes don't. No reason I can see for the difference, repeat the exact same steps and get a different result. I made my own aspect display, and after fiddling with it a while I decided to improve it. After trying out the new texture using PSP-7 illumination effects, I decided it was good enough for freeware. So I reinstalled the default GP38, opened it in the cab editor, and added the new aspect display installing it the exact same way as I had done with the PO&N GP38, which is based on the default KUJU geep. Works fine with the PO&N geep, send/don't send with Cyndi's favorite. Restored, rehacked, send/don't send, repeat until disgusted. So I opened the PO&N GP38 (which has a custom SD40 style cabview) in the cab editor, moved the aspect display to the position that would be right for the BNSF geep, and saved. Then I opened the PONgp38.cvf in wordpad, copied the text and pasted into the BNSF gp38.cvf, incremented the number of controls to 23, and it worked. Next I pasted the same text into the MS/TA 1.2 SD40-2, incremented controls to 26, that worked. So I tried with the Dash 9, send/don't send.No idea what the difference is, other than the cab editor might be just plain moody. I'm attaching the hack to this post, anyone wants to fool with it download and stick the cabview into the \GP38 folder, or copy all the text from the aspect.txt file and paste under the last parenthesis in another .cvf file, bumping the number of controls up by four. Also try adding with that manic-depressive cab editor if you're inclined, see if you get different results than I get.
