RE: What is the program you guys use...

Not sure what you asking.I manually edit .cvf file use notepad (or wordpad in win9x). For my cabview can not open in Cab Editor. Later I hear that's the problem of alias. But manually edit really let me leran much.If you mean how to make picture for cab, that's just graphics editor program like all others use. If you want to take photo of cab, I hope you can borrow a very short len camera, and take many photos with different handle position (Don't move view point and angle). That's not a easy job!

You will really need a good bitmap image of your cabview based on either a photo of the real thing or a rendered screenshot of a cab that has been created within a 3D modelling program for starters. For info on how to create a new cabview with new controls or utilising existing levers and dials etc see this link.http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/index.html#modelsCab View tutorial is in the model building section.

RE: What is the program you guys use...

I have gotten very good results by using Train Sim Modeler. I make a 3d model of the controls in the cab just like I would make a model of a loco, car, structure etc. Then I animate the control in TSM, usualy with 12 to 24 "frames", unless it's a "2 state" control the I just use 2 "frames". Then take a screen capture of each "frame". If the control is going to pass in front of other controls in the cab I hide all other objects in the veiw and turn the black background into an alpha chanel after I have moved the screen caputers to a paint program. The next step is to cut and paste just the pixels around the control using the exact upper left and lower right pixels each frame and copy them into a paint program such as windows paint or paint shop pro etc. Arange each "frame" in order in a single drawing and convert to ace for use in the cab editor. Be careful with the rules of ace file sizes. Large or long controls may need two halves.
