Thanx for making the "driving" experience better in the GP/SD series of locos. Great improvement. To those that haven't tried his modified cabviews yet, I suggest giving them a try. I think he's done a nice job.

RE: Thanx Don Crano

Indeed. I've installed a number of his cabviews, and the installation is very straightforward. Now I just need to find the time to alias the numerous locomotives in my Trainset file to them. Thanks again, Don!Henry

Thank you for the kind words. I am glad you are enjoying them, and hope the others who have taken the time to download them are enjoying them also. Now I have a question! How much interest would the be for Night versions of the cab views. I have done a couple for my self, and if there is enough interest, I could start doing them for all the current and future cab views as well. Here is a sample of one I did for the UP low hood version.

Mr. Crano,Your work is the reason that my B&O, C&O, Chessie System, N&W, and Norfolk Southern EMD units look more real and thus don't languish idly on the roster. In fact, I just finished the Salisbury Local 1 activity on the Sandpatch, and I marveled at how much that simple blue nose and cab panel added to the impression that I was guiding twelve hundred tons of empty hoppers out to the Shaw mines. I appreciate what you've done, and I'm very pleased with the quality of your work. I er, couldn't con you into a high- and low-nose set for the Penn Central's EMD units, could I?

Actually the N&W should be awful close. If you have something else in mind, email me dcrano@neo.rr.com, with some photos or better yet MSTS screen dumps showing the hoods.Don

Heh, I forgot about the N&W view until you mentioned. Literally all of my N&W units are high-nose, so I hadn't installed that one yet. My primary concern was about the PC's propensity to paint some of the handrails yellow, but from looking at a few reference photos, that's kind of haphazard.Never mind the request; all that ought to work just fine, especially since it's the Penn Central. Anything goes with that road, which is part of the fun. Inconsistencies will be blamed on New York Central personnel; the red team can do no wrong.Again, thanks for the work.

Don, as a fellow night cab enthusiast, I must commend you on the screenshot. I would suggest to you that you make just the 1 night cab version with a dark nose for the night cab version. The details INSIDE of the cab are what shows up in the night version and not nearly as much the nose texture. You could provide an alias cabview file with it and make alot of folks happy, and you wouldn't have to produce 30 or more different downloads and zip files. I think it would be simpler for everyone in the interest of drive space and aliasing considerations.

RE: Thanx Don Crano

Yup, that's how I'm using them. I'm not a fussy runner, so I'm using your NW with the black low nose as a sort of generic. Great enough for me and I still get enjoy your hard work. Thanks much for all your work. I might try the night cab in the daytime.Ted

Richard,Nice screen shot. Looks like we are both working off of Alex Hall's great work. Yours is based on his original BNSF cab view, and mine from his latter update with the Qtron.
Do you prefer to show some of the outside color, or generic gray scale?Don

RE: Thanx Don Crano

Is it ready to be posted? I prefer using the night cabs in the day time anyway.Looks better to me.But then you have to show the colors on the nose.At night not a problem with the generic gray.

Hi Claude,The picture I posted is from the sd40-2 night cab I did in August last year, that one comes with a bat file so you can switch between a day and the night version. It's in the TrainSim site library somewhere. Or you could wait until Don comes out with his version. Regards,
Richard.

RE: Thanx Don Crano

I just uploaded the night view cabs a few minutes ago, they should show up in a day or two.Included are both high hood and low hood versions. And several options to use them, including a batch file that will toggle day to night, and night to day.Don

Would you like a dark cab with a normal day view. I can do them without much trouble. I have my PSP files all set with the required layers, I can go day or night inside the cab, as well as outside, also turn the stand and/or gauge lights on or off. Here is a NS low nose, night interior with all lights, and normal day view on the outside, is this something like what you have in mind?Don

Don you have done an excellent job with these views.Keep up the good work.I thank you for all the cabviews that you've produced.

RE: Thanx Don Crano

Great. The same from me. I'm using the NW low-nose view as a generic, black nose and hand rails. Do you only need new ACE files for the left, front, right views? Or do you also need handles, needles, etc for the view? Thanks for your work, Don.

RE: Thanx Don Crano

Ted,Yes they would require new left, right, views, as well as handles, needles, etc.But if you download, when available, the new generic night views I just uploaded you would then have them all. And I would just have to redo the frnt.ace files to match.I guess the real question is, if most would like this type of view, then there is no reason for the normal or lighter view files. Would be how to do a general update of all my released cabviews. There would be no need for the original ace files, so one could just copy the nightview aces over the EMD aces.Or the other way would be keep the original EMD aces and the new Nightview aces, and make the front aces and change the .cvf files to call which ever aces required. This would allow everyone to make a choice, light or dark cab interiors, but will require more files, separate .cvf files, and this all leads to more disk space as well.My self I like the idea of choice, so I will have to see what I can come up with for a general update that would easily allow anyone to set it up the way they want.Don

RE: Thanx Don Crano

I'm very able at accessing the files and folders thru the Explorer window. I've aliased most of my engines to the SD40-2 cab and sound thru the Common-Cab and Common-Sound folder method. Now, I have under Common-Cab and -Sound SD40-2 folders, your day cab in there. For a night version, I'll rename the current SD40-2 on to "SD40-2 Day" and put in your new one as "SD40-2 Night". Whichever one I want to use (even if it's an almost permanent one), I'll just remove the name DAY or NIGHT.Having another Cabview or Sound folder DOES take space, but no more than 3-4 new engines.

RE: Thanx Don Crano

I agree! After being out of MSTS for about 9 months, this was the best thing I found when I came back. I included Seaboard and Family Lines cabviews with my last SD40-2 repaints, but they didn't come out so well. You guys have done great! THANKS! Also, I like the "grey scale" version above best--nice work.
