What controls whether a throttle will operate through eight notches or operate continuously throughout its travel? I can't seem to find anything in the .eng or .cvf files that seems to control this, and nothing in searching the archives here that seems to help. Thanks in advance . . .Brad Meyer
Brad, Here are the changes you would need to make to remove notches from the dynamic brakes and make it continuous. The changes to the throttle would be the same. That should do it for you. Wurger ) Brake_Dynamic ( 0 1 0.0125 0 NumNotches ( 3 Notch ( 0 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.0125 1 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.0126 1 Dummy )Add the above lines to remove the notches from the Dynamic brakes. Then delete these lines:
Notch ( 0.1111 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.2222 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.3333 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.4444 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.5555 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.6666 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.7777 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.8888 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE Notch ( 0.9999 0 Dummy ) DELETE LINE )
Some of the default engines have an error in the Throttle line which makes it impossible to get notched performance. This is a known "bug", which is nothing more than sloppy programming and worse quality control. Explain your problem a little better please: Are you asking how to make a throttle notched, or how to make a throttle continuous? Neither are difficult. Be specific. Which loco or locos are you referring to?Bing
>Explain your problem a little better please: As the replies let me know, my real problem was being too ignorant of cab creation to formulate a proper question. Realizing that, I went back to work and nuked it out for myself. Once I looked at a few .cvf files from cabs that worked as I wanted, and got to understand the structure, and the relationship between the .eng file and the .cvf file, I was able to build a .cvf to do what I wanted by hacking bits from other files and using the cab editor to move things around in the cab, and then tweaking the .eng file accordingly.I have specifically been working on hi-hood and long hood forward cabs. Good fun. Thanks to all for your input. The fact that I got little from them other then a wake up call is not your responsibility, and besides, the wake up call was needed.Brad Meyer
Well, the cabview files don't control the throttle performance, but if you are satisfied with what you're getting, we can deep six the thread. OK by me and good luck.Bing
Part of what I have found out is that the .cvf does control much of throttle appearence in the cab view. I understood that the .eng file was also involved, but did not really understand how until I started looking at some eng files on engines that did have the sort of controls I wanted working in the manner I desired. Attached is a screen shot of the cabview I am working on for the GN GP9m #911. I think I am heading in the right direction. I am very happy with how the cab drives. In fact, it is the first cab that I have really enjoyed driving from the #1 view with the track monitor off. I want to start tweaking the .ace front texture next, but at least now everything works and I am happy with the view. Brad Meyer
In the .eng file, there is an instruction block toward the end of the file that looks like either: EngineControllers ( Throttle ( 0 1 0.125 0 NumNotches ( 9 Notch ( 0 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.125 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.25 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.375 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.5 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.625 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.75 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 0.875 0 Dummy ) Notch ( 1 0 Dummy ) ) ) Or: EngineControllers ( Throttle ( 0 1 0.025 0 NumNotches ( 0 ) ) The first is for a "notched" throttle, the second is for a continuous. Now the problem - the default GP38 that came with MSTS 1.0 had additional numerals in the line: Throttle ( 0 1 0.125 0 There was an additional 1. so it looked like: Throttle ( 0 1 0.125 0 1. It made the throttle run as a continuous for some reason. Removing that 1. fixed the problem. I'm not sure if 1.1 or 1.2 fixed that particular problem, or if everyone's just been living with it.
