Is there a cab available, and/or a way for Southern, Norfolk & Western and NS Geeps and SD's to be operated long-hood forward? I am working on reskinning Justin Cornell's SD40-2 into a Norfolk & Western 3-pack, and would like to include or alias to a prototypical cab and operation. Thanks,Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD TKW Paintshop Technician
Chris, DadBill's modifications to the TA/Kuju SD402 in MSTS1.2 fits the bill with the exception of the long hood view..... You could add that by modifying redoing the front.ace file that DadBill uses.... I think he calls the Long-hood forward a GP7 but it is in fact the SD402 cab......Chuck Schneider (Virtual) CEO North American (Virtual) Locomotive Works
Seems like there is a utility that will allow the shape to be rotated 180 degrees and run backwards. Shape File Manager I think it is? Don't know how it works, but it doesn't require a 3D modelling program from what I can tell.
Okay, thanks guys. I'll see what I can come up with. Worse coming to worse, I'll just run them like every other NORMAL railroad does, short-hood forward. Chris Denbow - Baltimore, MD TKW Paintshop Technician
Chris,From my understanding of the limitations of MSTS, the following changes need to be made to operate a locomotive (truly) in a long-hood fashion.1. The locomotive needs to be built or modified for long-hood forward. The body of the loco must be rotated 180 degrees, but the trucks must stay in thier original orientation.2. The cabview position must be edited along with the headout view to move the view away from the front of the loco.3. The front cabview can then be modified to show the long hood.I am currently working on a long-hood forward GP9, and I am still experimenting with different issues with this model. If I sucessfully resolve these issues, I will be posting.Hope this helps,Bob
Follow-up to previous message,Downloaded Shape File Manager and was playing with it, and reversed my long-hood forward GP7! This utility will get you started in the right direction. Select the high short hood loco you desire and load into shape file manager. Select REVERSE after uncompressing. Compress the file and load into MSTS, viola! Long Hood Forward. But the cabview is still the same! Not to fear, open Cab editor and change the position of the cab (find the lengthwise value, make it a negative should do the trick). Now, move your HeadOut view into the cab, load MSTS and print screen. Open MSPaint and Paste. Use that picture to edit your view. (The cab editor gurus can help you with that one.) Hope this helps!Bob
