OK - I'm trying out my first cab but am running into a problem. I'm trying to create a display. Two lamps (24x24 each)that equally fit into a 48w x 24h image. I created them in PSP7 as a psp file (so I can edit the layers in the future), a tga file and a bmp file, all with no alpha. Using MakeAceWIN I convert the bmp image to an ace file. Check Create Bitmap and clamp to 48 wide and 24 height. Go to MSTS Cab Editor and open up (sucessfully) the cab I am creating. Next I go to Create a new display, select the appropriate image, adjust the frames (2) and load it into the cab. The problem I am having is that the display is only showing the left 2/3 and upper 2/3 of the image. I repeated this recreating the ace file from the tga image also. No change I get out of Cab Editor and load the same ace file into TGATool2 and even this shows the same distorted image. Even tho the image is 48x24x24 bit. Should this be 32 bit, I mean should I have created an alpha channel (white) to make this a 32 bit image? Did I miss something in a MakeAceWIN setting? or did this just fly over my head. Thanks in advance, Dwight........(cab beginner)
I too have had this problem. It seems the makeace thing, even if you clamp it, wants a specific size. I was working with an image that was 100 x 140. It has 8 frames. Two rows of 4 for an aspect display. No mater what parameters I used it would not convert to ace properly. Always the top right would be missing. I noticed it was trying to make the image 100 x 128. So I made it 100 x 128 and it worked great. It like you have to break it down on the height128 64 32 16 or it won't work.It seems only to effect the height.
Thanks for the reply Bob, Since I originally posted this I have been trying to build the cab by trial and error. With absolutely no previous experience in cab design I've been kinda learning it from scratch. You are right about the ace files. I found out from digging through the archives that the original has to be on a background of even multiples of 2. I usually use 64x64 as a minimum then makeacewin to the size I need. Also found out that when creating a cvf file from scratch that every ace file you need better be in the same folder that the cab is going to be in or Cab Editor goes belly up (even goes belly up for no reason at all too). It's a long learning curve and sometimes I feel like I'm close to the spicket. When I get something that looks like it might work I'll post it here for a review. Thanks again Dwight......
