The Train Artisan cab with no nose. I thought the gp38-2 had a nose, like the one on the sim and the BN, BNSF, and ATSF ones I see here in town.

It's there dadbill.Your glasses are on crooked. I just cleaned mine and I was able to see the nose ( LOL ).
Printer-friendly page | Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
You're Right! With my glasses what you're seeing is the (1) side of the hood of the diesel parked in front, or that would make this a high-hood, and all I can see of our hood here is (2) the grabiron.
Now Vote me!

Sorry. My English is worst. I don't understand what this poll mean? Vote for you will mean your cabview are worst or good?BTW, based on your idea. I have reversed the SD40-2 cabview for these loco which cab control are in left. I want to make perspective correction on it. But it's really difficult, so may be can not achieve.I don't know why, but I can not upload picture now. So I use a link instead.

I believe that if you vote, then that means that you are voting for the worst cabview. But YOUR cab looks pretty good!-Matt, future Cirque Du Soleil singer-Crime: It's my anti drug -Creating Pac-Man comics for the humorless people out there

Pretty Good??
Curses! Foiled Again!
Yes it's true, I was only joking, but I figured since they put mine on the board, might as vote it the worst!
Of course I understand it is a matter of tastes, and some people would rather see the nose of a different engine than be looking straight forward...
When the new cabview came out seemed to me you would have to make a new cabview for each engine, that's alotta disk space, so I was trying to create a generic that could be used with any engine. wdq4587:
I wanted to create a left side (fireman) view like yours but without a photograph of the door, you'ld have to be a pretty good artist to make it believable. BTW I'm using these values for the engineer side: Position ( 0.3 3 4 )
Direction ( 8 -12 0 )

Glad to see you reply!>When the new cabview came out seemed to me you would have to
>make a new cabview for each engine, that's alotta disk
>space, so I was trying to create a generic that could be
>used with any engine. In short nose loco, can see or not see nose depend the driver height and head position, I guess most case they can see nose, but only a few.Is there are possible use a fake device to represent nose? Or there are may be size restriction?>wdq4587:
>I wanted to create a left side (fireman) view like yours but
>without a photograph of the door, you'ld have to be a pretty
>good artist to make it believable. Yes, manually draw it near impossible. I have consider the possibility based on other cabview photo, transform image from sd402 cabview to re-make it. But it's just a thinking. If I have time, I will try.SD40-2 cabview is skew if we look forward. I am trying make perspective correction on it (not only vertical and horizontal), but it's very very difficult than normal thinking. I even use a warp (morph) program to do that, but still can not satisfy with the result. May be I will give up.>BTW I'm using these values for the engineer side:
>
> Position ( 0.3 3 4 )
> Direction ( 8 -12 0 ) Can not agree your new values.
Position ( 0.3 3 4 )
0.3? Where are you sitting? In the middle? It should be 1.0~1.2. And I am using 1.2m to near the camera position.
3? Too low! For most case, it should be 3.7~3.8, and I am using 3.8. It should not less than 3.4 meter.
4 It depend on which loco, for low hood short nose, I am using 6.7m.
High hood short nose will near you. For long nose, well, we can not except this cabview look like a long nose cabview:) I try more than 20 times to found these values.Direction ( 8 -12 0 )
I am using: Direction ( 13 -19 0 )8 vs 13
I notice most gp38 style loco control panel are high than sd40-2. I want to lift up the control panel in cabview, the problem is how to fill blank bottom.-12 It's like a angle in high hood long nose to avoid see nose. Not good for low hood short nose and also high hood short nose(I am using -18).

Debate, debate.
I just posted a patch using those values, sorry! It looked about right to me... Sitting in the middle? Maybe, but I figure you're in a cab over the tracks you should be able to see some tracks underneath you and not off to the side or under the middle of the engine. Can't please everyone, but you know, you can always just use whatever values suit yourself.

Yes, debate. But I know why you need these values. There are relation between these values.First you use a -12 angle left, seems try avoid see nose. That's not enough to see tracks near you, so you change the seat position to middle 0.3 to see more tracks. You use a 8 angle down, that also not enough to see building near you, so you move the seat position down 3. I admit 13 (same as origianal) is too much, but I guess real value will near 11 not 8.My values are near real, carefully compared with other view many times. That mean you will not feel strange when pass a signal.

I post a photo I took sitting in the engineers seat at the correct position in a real locomotive sometime. That pic posted is the wrong position. You're right, I don't see no nose either. But the TA nose is way too long, use it on a snoot-nose. It might fly off the tracks.
