Hey Guys,
I'm finishing up reskinning and modifying data files on a LIRR Push-Pull consist. My question is how do you change cabviews when you change ends ? I'm using a GP38-2 on one end with 4 modified Bombardier coaches ( to look like LIRR Budd coaches ) and an Alco PA2 as the Power Pack. I've got everything working including the headlight
changes when changing ends. I'm not sure if or where I could make the changes. I'm attaching a few shots. Thanks as always. KRO52

RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

Unless someone knows better, the only way that you're going to be able to pull it off is to create a passenger view in the cab of the opposite end....in other words, a "real" cabview in the GP-38, and a "passenger" (accessible by hitting <5>) cabview in the ex-FA power pack.As I said above, some one may know better than I though.Dan

RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

Thanks for the info !! I was afraid that might be the answer. I redid the interior on the coaches and I really didn't want to give that pass. view up. Thanks Again. KRO52

RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

Hopefully this is something well see in MSTS 2, Although what we really need is better graphics and frame rates. I have a question! Are you going to be uploaded those or releasing them in anyway or they for personal pleasure?

RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

Hey YoungLIRR,
I plan to release them as long as I get permission from the modelers.
These are my first repaints and mods so I have to see how the copyright permission goes. By the way do you work for the road ? I recently retired from the LIRR after 32 years as a foreman in the locomotive shop at Morris Park. Thanks for the reply. KRO52

I just started working for Metro North as an engineer.Hmm....my guess as far as your query is this:You could --- I assume that those models you reskinned are the NALW Comet coaches (either MNRR or MBTA...). If that is the case, when the consist is in push configuration (meaning the cab coach is in control), it has it's own cab -- you will need to get permission from NALW before releasing it -- but the downside is that the said cab car has to be on the end........in other words, no HEP -- as in real life, the locomotive (in your case, a GP38, if I'm not mistaken) absorbs the responsibility for HEP, and with NALW's models (and .eng files for the cab control cars), the HEP eats up fuel each send your train is idle or active.Stuart D. RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

Hello Stuart,
You are correct about the NALW coaches. Presently I'm only using one coach ( no cab car ), multiplied by 4 until I renumber them. My hotel power comes from the ALCO PA2 #618 on the opposite end. When we first got them, (out of the boneyard) but rebuilt by GE they had the original 244 prime mover engine in them. The traction motors and any associated traction switching were removed. The throttle stand and 24RL brake stand remained. The throttle was connected to the locomotive at the opposite end through the 27 point trainline jumper. The power,650VDC was delivered to the coaches by two trainline jumpers, 650+ and 650-. The locomotive (GP38-2 in my consist) was strictly used for traction. Good luck in your new career. I ran many during my 32 years with the LIRR, non-revenue and it's a trip. I will always be in amazement by these machines. Thanks again. KRO52

RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

thats great news, I wanted to make an attemp to repaint these myself but i'm been rather busy. No i don't work for the road but its something I've always wanted to do. I'm actually only 15 in highschool. I live near the Bay Shore train station so I've been watching these trains run for quite some time. Just wondering how did you feel when the new bi-level cars and engines came out to replace the budd cars and old engines? I'm only asking becuase as interesting as it was to see and ride the new units, I'd have to admit I miss watching the old trains.

RE: Push-Pull Consist - Changing Ends

Young,
And I thought you were an "old" railroad dude! Glad to see young people are still interested in railroading! I was 18 when I started on the road, the day after I graduated from high school. In answer to my thoughts about the "new" equipment. The new equipment will never last nearly as long as our old fleet- too many buzzers and whistles. The computers control everything and are unforgiving. EMD made a poor showing with support and quality. If these were auto's they would have been recalled for everything including structual failures on a major scale. The cost for running this fleet has cost the railroad a bundle and the return has been terrible. There is no reliabilty with this equipment. The coaches and cab cars are just as bad. The old fleet served us well considering how old those coaches actually were, vintage mid 1950's. The old fleet of EMD's were bought in 1976 and ran for 25 years. When I started I served my apprenticeship on old ALCOS S4's, RS2's, RS3's,and Century 420's. I , personally had a great 32 years there. Best of Luck ! KRO52

let's hope that the LIRR M-7 will do what the new stuff did not. Soon we will have a very nice set of MTA rail under our belts. We will have the Diesel sets for MNRR/CDOT/LIRR and a MNRR/LIRR M-7 and a possible M-8 (M-8 is a catanary fictional version of the M-7)-NHtrain
