I have been trying for two days to install the v4 update to the GP38 cab by Johan Pretorius (JohanStream). No matter what I do, I end up with a wonderful unobstructed view forward with a few handles visible, the wiper blades and a few other misc items from the cab but no cab. I know I must be missing something simple but don't know what. Must you do some kind of compile after you make the changes in the readme.txt file?I have also downloaded the 3d Trains F7 units and have tried making the Pro Series change for the F7 cab but I get the same thing.Any help would be appreciated.
Fred,I had this same problem too when I first tried to install the version 4 cab. Originally, what I did was delete the CABVIEW folder's contents that came with the locomotive I was trying to add the version 4 cab to. I then just copied the "GP38J.cvf" file from the version 4 download to the locomotive's cabview folder. This won't work and causes the "floating" gauges/needles problem you have described. To remedy this, I went to the default GP38's CABVIEW folder and copied all of the files within the folder to the CABVIEW folder of the locomotive I was trying to add the version 4 cab to. Make sure BOTH the original GP38.cvf and GP38J.cvf files are within the CABVIEW folder of the locomotive you're trying to change.Once you've done this, open the locomotive's ENG file with wordpad and scroll down and change the cabview line from (for example)Cabview (GP38.cvf)to Cabview (GP38J.cvf)then save the ENG file. Try this. It should solve your problem. If not you may have to have the version 3 files installed too. I don't think this file is in the library anymore. If you need this file just let me know.Regards,Brian Morgan Silver Creek, Georgia Milepost 85.0H of NS's Atlanta North District
OK I'm not sure since I don't Johann's cabview on this machine any more but IIRC, since he didn't do a lot of aliasing, you have to copy the default GP38 cabview into the cabview folder you want to use and then install his package over the top of it????? I could be full of donkey dust too.... But I remember something like that.....Chuck Schneider (Virtual) CEO North American (Virtual) Locomotive Works
