My cabview guage is online now. Helps eliminate the F4 track monitor by displaying upcoming signals. If you add the Signal Display needle to the speedometer guage, you won't need the track monitor at all.Bob Artim

RE: Cabview Guage

Got a few emails asking me how to install this. I am sorry but I do not have the time to teach someone the cab editor. So here are so breif instructions.1. Unzip file to cabview folder of you choice, only ACE s needed.
2. Open the cab editor.
3. Open the cab view (CVF file) of an engine of your choice.
4. Choose NEW DISPLAY from the menu.
5. From the pulldowns when you choose New Display pick ASPECT DISPLAY and below pick CAB SIGNAL DISPLAY.
6. You will see a box to choose the graphic, browse to the CabView Guage in the folder you unzipped it to.
7. Then you have to change the NUMBER OF FRAMES, choose 4 across and 2 down.
8. Close that window and place the guage whereever you like.
9. Last step. Choose another new DISPLAY from CAB ELEMENTS, anything will do. Then CANCEL it. When you CANCEL it any object that was HILITED with the green outline, will NOT be hilited anymore. NOW you can save the CVF file.NOTE If you save the CVF file with an object selected it will TRASH the CVF file and you will not be able to load it in the editor again. This is all the support I can give for this guage. You are on tyour own from here.Bob Artim

Dude you need to read up on some of the tips for using the cab editor. Then start experimenting. Make a back up of the CVF you are playing with and go to town.Look at the parameters for the black needle on the speedo and do the same thing for the red, only you'll be adding the red one.ie; Hi lite the black speedo needle and either double click it or choose properties from the menu. Write down all the parameters. Pick new display, ASPECT SPEED and put all the parameters from the black needle in, replaceing the graphic with the red needle. Then it wil lshow you the upcoming speeds listed on the F4.

Well dude why don't you post what you've done since you have the skills to do this type thing. That way all can see what you've done instead of you trying to tell it here.I'm sure there's more to it than what you've just explained.A cab shot would also be nice.

RE: Cabview Guage

I opened the cab editor for the first time a few days ago. I have 4 hours experience with it. What would you like me to teach you? I got the same help file you do. I read it. Didnt understand a thing. So I started opening up cab files and looking at them to see what someone else did. I backed up a cvf file before I actually changed anything. I destroyed at least 80 cvf files before I discovered not to save with an object hilited. In other words I dont know a thing about the cab editor. I just improvised on what someone else allready did. Here is a screen shot of it in use.

RE: Cabview Guage

Well it took me a while to figure it out, but i got it!I saw your picture, and read what you said, played around with it and got it to work. I did it on the SD40-2. For some reason the gp38, will not work. I did it exactly the same way, but it crashes every time. If anyone wants the CVF file for the sd40-2, leave your addy, and i'll send it to you.

I've gotten the cab signals in place with no ploblem.Got it right on the first try. What I want to know and see is how you were able to get the file to show track speeds without the track monitor being present.I like that blue nose also. That would look good on my CR units.BTW will it show the track speed prior to you entering the speed restriction. That way you know when to start backing off the throttle.I still have alot of territory that needs to be learned and the advanced notice would be helpful.

RE: Cabview Guage

The red needle works OK for the most part. It usually tells you the speed change at the next aspect signal. If you doing 60 and the speed is going to drop to 45 the needle goes to 45.I have found situations where it is useless. If the speed is over the limit of the speedometer. Speedo goes to 80 but next speed is 105, the needle cant register it.If you are coming to the end of the line (path) the last few signal speeds are not accurate or completely off the scale. I am told that his to do with the way the route designer programmed the signal script.I also have not tested it on one of those red zones at 15 mph, so that I dont know yet.

RE: Cabview Guage

Hey we've been doing those red needles in our cabs for months and months! You guys stole them from us! We are taking our toys and leaving never to return or at least not for a week!
ROFLMAO......
Best Idea Graeme had at the time when he and I started discussing how to get rid of the track monitor almost a year ago....
Enjoy.... Like the compact guage...
Graeme cobbled up a set of cab80 signals for me to fit on the center post... Love em.... may release them some day! LOL!Chuck Schneider

RE: Cabview Guage

Well ya know you can have your toys and take them if you like. Its my turn now.And the cab aspect display was always in there, you didn't invent it.The biggest difference everyone will see is my stuff will be available to everyone and I wont ever take it back or have a temper tamtrum if someone "steals" it. I look forward to any improvements anyone could make on something I did.Thats what I thought this whole Train-sim.com Community "Club if you will" was about. Sharing with the community not dictating to it.I got the software, I am getting the knowledge and experience, I have nothing but time and I got the balls to open up the editors. So move over.Bob Artim
