Alright, I know this is kinda newbish type of question for you big designers and all..I got TGA Tool 2, and I can create a front cabview file and do the alpha channel.. however when I export it Ace(Alpha) for the Alpha channel and the frontview.ace of whatever locomotive... it still doesn't add what I did or created. What am I doing wrong? I've goten a long ways from just downloading it an hour and a half ago.. but still, shouldn't this just overwrite the existing ace file.. I mean, I know it doesnt have to work in the game, but still shouldn't it show up what I made? Im not about to pull my hair out... yet.. Any easy step by step starting basics somewhere? I've searched, that's how I came across TGA Tool.Any help would be great, thanks guys

RE: Cab Designing, basics?

Are you sure TGAtool2 is REALLY saving your changes? When you open the ace file back up, Does it reflect your changes ?, or is it Still the original file?To save/export Ace files that are non-square you need to have either the updated makeace or the makeace from the MS Patch.
The standard makeace that comes with Trainsim will only create Ace files that are square, power of 2 and no larger than 512x512.I found this out the hard way. I had reinstalled MSTS, and it had overwrote the updated makeace file with the original, which Does Not work with files that are 1024 x 768.http://www.microsoft.com/games/trainsim/Kyle

Aight, let me make this a little clearer..What I do is I open the default MSTS Dash 9 frontcab.ace, and send it to the editor.. copy some new cab picture in it thats the same size.. save it then make the alpha channel save it.. then export it.I then reopen the dash 9 front that I just copied over, and bam - still the same one.I got the update that MS released... I guess Im doing something wrong..BTW I have backups so it's alright if I screw up.

RE: Cab Designing, basics?

Do you have the correct version of makeace "Selected" in TGAtool2? It is a drop down box below the small window which shows your transparency that you have to select "updated version of makeace".

RE: Cab Designing, basics?

Yep, sure do.I got it working and it'll take a little trial and error along with hair pulling however...I am now on my way to cab building from the beginners level. :-PI got a decent working photo realistic GE widecab as a front view (from Al Krugs cab tour) I set for my CSX CW6000AC , it's pretty good for a first attempt except the controls dont match with the desk and what not.. I'm using controls from the "stock" BNSF Dash 9 and 3dtrains SD70 cabview files.I'm getting there... the first step is over though. Thanks a lot for all you're help guys, really appreciate it.
