(Cross posted in MS Trainsim forum)I'm now working on a night time version of the Series 30000 cab, and would like to solicit opinion -- or even first-hand expertise, if it exists. Obviously the gauges are illuminated -- I'm experimenting with a blue/green backlight effect. These gauges will also (I feel) tend to illuminate some small area around them (ambient light). Now some questions:1. What is a typical color for gauge lighting?
2. Is there any other source of light in use in the cab (this is a railcar, BTW) at night, so the engineer can see where the brake lever is and where he left the coffee mug? If so, is it a dim, general area light or (one or more) brighter, tightly focused lights (e.g. shining on specific areas fo the desk)? What color (red/blue/white)?
3. Given the 30000 has its headlights above the cab and the cab "roof" is transparent, would you expect a small amount of the headlight light to shine into the cab? How about backscatter or reflections from the headlights?
4. Are displays (e.g. clock, radio, aspect) and illuminated switches less bright at night (i.e. can they be set to day/night mode)? What's behind all of this is I'm trying to determine how dark/light the overall cab is, what objects or areas are illuminated, and what by. I'm also trying to do it all using 3d Canvas Pro lighting (areas, spots, etc.) rather than post-Raytrace tweaking with PSP7. Thus if I know the type and soure of lights, 3DC can model their effect, shading, shadows, etc.Any and all input greatfully received, whether based on fact, opinion or simple preference Thanks & regards, Jimi
